While plastic pollution can stay in the environment for a long time, other types of only around short time. For example light pollution, which is gone as soon source switched off. But many sources remain turned on at night due to growing human population and reduced costs artificial light, negative impact ecosystems near urban areas growing. This possible because impacts natural periodic cycles animals plants, changes animals' behavior, harm functioning whole ecosystems. These have far-reaching consequences, so should not be overlooked.

Chemical contaminants in the environment have become a growing concern due to their detrimental effects on ecology and evolution of organisms. Understanding impacts these is crucial for mitigating consequences promoting sustainable practices. This study aims examine direct indirect chemical organisms, explore role driving evolutionary processes, provide conceptual framework understanding ecological contaminants. A comprehensive review existing literature case studies was conducted assess organisms at various levels biological organisation. including physiological disruptions, behavioural changes, reduced reproductive success. These also drive processes by imposing selective pressures altering genetic diversity within populations. The are far-reaching multifaceted. It develop that considers interconnectedness systems understand mitigate Implementing strategy sustainability vital safeguarding ecosystems, human health, harmonious coexistence with natural world.

The sensitivity of organisms to toxic substances is a pivotal facet in ecological and toxicological research. Understanding differential sensitivity's basis its evolutionary underpinnings imperative for anticipating managing the repercussions toxins on organisms. Our comprehensive analysis reveals that physiological traits, encompassing metabolic capacity, membrane transporters, wield significant influence determining organism toxins. Evolutionary processes, including natural selection genetic variations also contribute tolerance or resistance substances. This review focuses existing research concerning sensitivity, particularly emphasizing toxicokinetics, toxicodynamics, factors underlie Furthermore, it explores practical applications predictive ecotoxicology chemical management identifies promising prospects models. integration these insights into development application can usher era effective environmentally benign chemicals, thereby curtailing impacts fostering harmonious coexistence between their surroundings.

With the rapid development of global economy, over-expansion outdoor artificial light at night (ALAN) in cities has led to increasingly severe pollution worldwide. More and more studies have paid attention problem pollution, but there is still a lack systematic literature review on nighttime terms research progress, hotspots, its evolutions. For this purpose, study firstly analyzed current actuality trends about via comprehensive retrospect pertinent summarized adverse effects monitoring technologies by VOSviewer-based keyword co-occurrence technique. Additionally, explored variation tendency typical countries from 2013 2021 based remote-sensing data further proposed management suggestions protect environment. The results indicate that popularity been increasing recently, especially after opening diversified 2012; main topics are dominated technologies, where latter represented ground survey observation; total levels ALAN intensity relatively high most developed countries, mean per capita values decreasing, above phenomenon developing show opposite trend. This expects integrate analysis method demonstrate status systematically so as provide scientific references for assessment

Urban noise and artificial light at night (ALAN) are global pollutants affecting animal acoustic communication. A previous study that measured noise, but not ALAN, found vermilion flycatchers produce longer songs in noisier territories. subsequent another population, males emit brighter, noisier, The negative result could be due a lack of sufficient variation the latter study. We evaluated contribution ALAN on song length, provided ALAN. also peak frequency. During dawn chorus, we recorded 41 two populations (UNAM PERM), temperature. For population with (UNAM), confirmed length was positively associated noise; it negatively especially those late breeding season. At UNAM, an overall positive association between pitch ALAN; additionally, singing relatively low ambient temperatures (12-15 °C) produced higher pitched as increased. Those closer to new moon levels (43-54 dB[A]) sang brighter territories; these results should taken cautiously. Our show light, date, temperature unexpected ways pitch, potentially information content sexual selection.

Artificial light at night (ALAN) is a growing environmental issue associated with negative health outcomes. Yet, there dearth of evidence concerning its effect on blood pressure (BP), especially in Ghana. This study examined the associations between ALAN, pressure, and hypertension. The used data from 13,784 participants 2014 Ghana Demographic Health Survey (GDHS). VIIRS Nighttime Day/Night Band dataset within Google Earth was to assess ALAN. Data BP were obtained GDHS. Linear logistic mixed effects models analyze data. Findings showed that higher ALAN score systolic (SBP), diastolic (DBP), odds We observed percentages SBP, DBP, hypertension among majority ethnic populations compared minority. Public interventions should aim reduce exposure benefit human health.

Abstract Urban ecology and tropical biology have both developed rapidly in recent decades matured into important interdisciplinary fields, with significant implications for biodiversity human communities globally. However, urban ecosystems within the tropics remain understudied poorly characterized despite these systems representing major hotspots population growth. Here we review state of field “tropical ecology.” We first evaluated propose ecological hypotheses about how versus extratropical species might differ from one another they respond to urbanization pressures. While data limited, expect that should be at least as vulnerable (and potentially more vulnerable) than biodiversity. also examined importance ecosystem services cities demonstrate challenges quantifying, managing, sustaining across diverse socioeconomic environmental contexts. Finally, an agenda moving forward through lens synthesizes advances biology. Specifically, development community science, Earth observation, justice, One Health, land sparing/sharing strategies could lead steps conservation cities. As world urbanizes increasingly biodiverse‐rich ecosystems, must strong conceptual frameworks increased data/attention on most impacted by global changes.
