In recent years, the “3-30-300” concept by Professor Cecil Konijnendijk has been gaining popularity, outlining what makes a city “green” and we should strive for. This suggests that from every apartment, at least three trees be visible, 30% of city’s surface covered with greenery, nearest park or forest no more than 300 m away. However, lack detailed guidelines implementation this significant challenge. The goal research presented here was to adapt for Warsaw (Poland) assess whether it can considered green city. We defined parameters such as maximum distance visible 20 determined counts toward areas. results showed 57.82% apartments in have view trees, while only 5.44% do not meet criterion, rest partially. Parks forests cover 19.95% city, all areas combined 42.01%. Additionally, 45% buildings are located within forest. Ultimately, full compliance applies 22.19% buildings, 12.66% criteria when considering parks forests. indicates that, is relatively green, its fulfill these criteria.

Abstract Exposure to green space is associated with both physical and mental health benefits, including the potential buffer acute stress responses, positioning it as a promising non-pharmacological approach protect cognitive functions against stress. However, urban residents often face significant barriers in accessing spaces, which are not equitably distributed. Virtual Reality (VR) technology offers solution by simulating that could be made accessible broader demographic. Here, we explored whether VR-stimulated dampen biological responses (i.e., heart rate cortical response) prevent stress-induced working memory (WM) impairment. Healthy young participants underwent induction followed 15 minutes of VR-based (N=36) or control empty (N=30) intervention. Although observed expected increase rates elevated cortisol levels under stress, VR exposure failed temper compared space. Further, did bring benefits performance across three WM tasks. Applying Bayesian analysis throughout enabled us find substantial evidence for absence an effect on markers performance. Our findings suggest VR-generated may effectively replicate stress-buffering effects actual exposure. We discussed implications our regarding limitations using responses.

The U.S. Surgeon General made an impactful declaration in the 2023 advisory on America's loneliness and social isolation epidemic that connection, or human relationships, is a need equivalent to water, food, shelter. After witnessing impact of measures during COVID-19 pandemic, there global urgency better understand connection public health responses. However, meaningfully effective interventions for have yet be identified, consensus unclear. To what oxygen, shelter common regarding population health, we conducted interdisciplinary literature review between September 2021 October 2024, seeking find commonalities research advocating as critical survival key concepts across disciplines explain how function needs. We integrated evolution, resource, environment, ecosystem, exposure science, embodiment, homeostasis, allostatic load theory, from 44 core publications develop unified conceptual model definition need. believe holistic understanding within shared context can support researchers variety ground developing evidence-based health.

Outdoor recreation provided a crucial way to maintain physical activity, reduce stress, and preserve sense of normalcy during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study assessed relationship between outdoor mental health in context COVID-19. Cross-sectional online survey data were collected early 2021 from sample ( n = 503) representative U.S. adult population age, gender, race. We observed prevalent engagement near-home activities, widespread reductions relative pre-COVID period, significant financial, racial differences patterns. Regression models suggested that reduced was associated with higher levels perceived stress depressive symptoms, whereas more frequent activities predicted better well-being. The implications adaptive versus cumulative exposure times disruptions are discussed, along need address structural inequities accessing as behavior.
