Aquaculture plays a critical role in Zambia's food and nutrition security. However, aquaculture is highly vulnerable to the effects of changing climate which can lead economic losses, insecurity. In this study, we investigated perceived change on production Zambia, vulnerability factors, adaptation strategies. We used semi-structured structured questionnaires collect data from producers all provinces across country. Results revealed high (over 80%) awareness change, primarily attributed literacy levels access media. Producers occurrence climate-related changes such as rising temperature, altered rainfall patterns, cyclones frequency, disease outbreaks, impacting costs. Generally, results indicate medium perception temperature increased frequency flooding droughts Although did not appear affect cost, droughts, floods, cyclones, outbreaks showed significant association with Identified factors include reliance limited range fish species, absence insurance coverage, low adoption practices. Vulnerability vary regions, agroecological zone I (Eastern, Lusaka, Southern, Western) showing higher vulnerability. Despite this, many aren't implementing measures due financial limitations, species diversity constraints, insufficient knowledge alternative pursuits. Main strategies involve livelihood diversification adjustments cultivation periods infrastructure. To foster sustainability amid interventions farm insurance, research enhancing producer resilience are necessary.

Abstract Due to the increasing population, economic development, and climate change, providing food water security requires significant changes in technologies that propel present-day management. Irrigation is largest most inefficient user, there an expectation even small improvements agricultural productivity will enhance security. Increasing a novel practice needed improved management for sustainable agriculture, healthy ecosystem. The explanation of involves quantity output per unit loss, which can be applied crops, livestock aquaculture. This chapter reviews challenges opportunities enhancing socially equitable ways. Water irrigated rainfed cropping systems by choosing well-adopted crop type, reducing unproductive losses, maintaining healthy, vigorous growing crops through optimized water, nutrient, agronomic Livestock increased feed animal husbandry, reduced mortality, appropriate watering, grazing In aquaculture systems, lost indirectly production via seepage evaporation from bodies, polluted discharge, efforts improve should directed at minimizing those losses. review also identifies different strategies improving biophysical change influence on productivity. Effort has been made address why matters.

Integrated aquaculture–agriculture systems are recognized as sustainable solutions to optimize resources, support livelihoods, and enhance food security in climate-sensitive Sahelian regions. In contexts like Burkina Faso, runoff water harvesting ponds (RWHPs) improve agricultural yields during the rainy season but remain underutilized for rest of year. This study assesses feasibility integrating fish farming into these ponds. Using Waso-2 tool, structured perception interviews were conducted with 51 farmers across 17 localities. Welch ANOVA Games–Howell tests revealed, on a scale 20, that insufficiency scored 16.01 among experienced without additional access key obstacle, while pond degradation 17.69 those access. For motivations, income generation 16.24 inexperienced farmers, whereas training opportunities 17.65 ones, highlighting varying priorities strata. Farmers preferred effluents over NPK vegetables, scoring 15.99. Some favored raw immediate use, 13.91, others decanted dried sludge gradual nutrient release, 12.39. demonstrates strong farmer interest integrated RWHP systems. Enhancing retention, supplementing groundwater, providing tailored aquaculture practices, maintenance, management recommended encourage adoption.

This study investigated the application of anaesthetics in 23 private and government-owned hatcheries 10 provinces Zambia. The employed both qualitative quantitative research designs used a structured questionnaire to collect data from respondents. results showed that most (65%) were not using handling fish all (100%) (35%) clove powder as only type. Most respondents (61%) sure or did have information about availability anaesthetic substances their localities while 26% reported wider but 13% had divergent claim. mortality rate for fingerlings applied ranged between 15–30% with consistently high demand those use rates more than 50% low demand. majority (53%) received training up certificate level, followed by who attained diploma qualification (27%) degree (13%) general skills (7%) levels minority. Furthermore, know importance anaesthetics. We conclude Zambian is very could partly be cause fingerling mortalities, there an urgent need address situation.

This study examined Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), and Zinc (Zn) levels in Limnothrissa miodon fish from Lake Kariba Zambia their potential impact on human health. Two-gram samples each stratum underwent a 12-hour digestion, concentrations were determined using Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer. Results indicated that Cu, Fe, Zn fell within Food Agricultural Organization World Health safety limits. Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) Hazard Quotient (THQ) values for males females remained under recommended thresholds, suggesting minimal health risks consumption. Element followed the order Fe > all below Recommended Allowances (RDAs). THQ values, with posing highest risk by one. Overall, Index (HI) was 0.02, signifying low non-carcinogenic Despite safety, ongoing monitoring of heavy metal accumulation ecosystem is advisable long-term safety. In conclusion, trace element are safe consumption associated risks. Nonetheless, continued vital.
