Abstract Objectives Neurodegenerative diseases are defined by specific protein accumulation and anatomic vulnerability leading to neuronal loss. Some studies have shown that lutein may an effect on neurodegenerative diseases. As most of the don’t certain cure therapies focus symptom control, Lutein be a complementary treatment. Due controversies in investigating diseases, we decided perform systematic review these studies. Methods A search was carried out available databases. We used all MeSH terms relevant keywords. Studies reported relationship between any disease were included. Results found 278 After removing duplicates, screening titles abstracts excluding irrelevant papers, 17 articles included this study. Fourteen investigated Alzheimer’s disease, 2 Parkinson’s 1 study Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. 1/17 high serum levels at baseline associated with lower risk AD mortality lipid profile been 2/17 Also, has intake reduce ALS progression. Conclusions 4/17 confirm can improve cognitive function. 8/17 demonstrate reduction progression AD, indicate improvement profiles. However, some did not find significant associations.
