The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L. 1758), is an omnivorous saprophagous insect with a high potential for valorizing organic by-products rich in carbohydrates. Among carbohydrates, H. relies on soluble sugars the growth and storage lipid synthesis. This study aimed to assess impact of common development, survival, fatty acid composition illucens. Monosaccharides disaccharides were individually incorporated into chicken feed diet. Cellulose was used as control. Larvae fed glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose grew faster than control larvae. In contrast, lactose exhibited anti-nutritional effects larvae, slowing down reducing final individual weight. However, all produced larvae fatter Notably, tested shaped profile. Maltose sucrose increased saturated content compared cellulose. Conversely, bioaccumulation dietary unsaturated acids. first demonstrate effect profile Our findings highlight that carbohydrates have significant fly can thus determine their applications.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are a chemically and structurally heterogeneous family of molecules produced by large variety living organisms, whose expression is predominant in the sites most exposed to microbial invasion. One richest natural sources AMPs insects which, over course their very long evolutionary history, have adapted numerous different habitats developing powerful innate immune system that has allowed them survive but also assert themselves new environment. Recently, due increase antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, interest risen. In this work, we detected hemolymph Hermetia illucens (Diptera, Stratiomyidae) larvae, following infection with Escherichia coli (Gram negative) or Micrococcus flavus positive) from uninfected larvae. Peptide component, isolated via organic solvent precipitation, was analyzed microbiological techniques. Subsequent mass spectrometry analysis us specifically identify expressed basal condition differentially after challenge. We identified 33 all samples, which 13 stimulated Gram negative and/or positive mostly challenge could be responsible for more specific activity.

Abstract A major roadblock towards the realisation of a circular economy are lack high-value products that can be generated from waste. Black soldier flies (BSF; Hermetia illucens ) gaining traction for their ability to rapidly consume large quantities organic wastes. However, these primarily used produce small variety products, such as animal feed ingredients and fertiliser. Using synthetic biology, BSF could developed into novel sustainable biomanufacturing platform valorise broader waste feedstocks enhanced feeds, biomolecules including industrial enzymes lipids, improved

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal associated with osteoporosis, liver, and kidney disease. The black solder fly (BSF) Hermetia illucens may be exposed to Cd during the transformation of livestock manure. BSF has high tolerance Cd. In previous work laboratory, we found that vitamin E (VE) play role in exposure. main findings are as follows: larvae pretreated exogenous VE had heavier body weight, lower content toxicity under similar Even exposure at concentrations 300 700 mg/kg concentration 100 still reduced 85.33 % 84.43 %, respectively. best-fitting models showed metallothionein (MT) content, oxidative damage (8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine malondialdehyde content), antioxidant power (total power, peroxidase activity) great influence on bioaccumulated larvae. degree was pretreatments. This variation can explained by their changed MT increased because VE. These results reveal roles insects defense against provide new option for prevention therapy caused

The scope of the present study was to effect different populations Hermetia illucens, commonly known as black soldier fly (BSF), on major components and volatile composition derived freeze-dried flours. Potential differences in life cycle stages BSF, i.e., larvae pupae, were also investigated. flours obtained from two BSF Greece (GR) Portugal (PO) (L-GR L-PO, respectively) demonstrated similar chemical compositions. Pupae (Pu-PO) richer chitin compared larvae. Differences spotted their fatty acid profiles fractions. saturated/unsaturated lipid fraction ratio 1.5 L-GR, higher L-PO (2.5), even case Pu-PO (4.0). Seventeen (17) compounds detected samples 24 L-GR samples. Notably, dodecanoic ethyl ester predominant compound all proteins both pupae dominated by β-sheet structures. study's findings are valuable for designing food or feed products based could be important applying suitable manufacturing processing procedures.

Hermetia illucens is an important insect resource. Studies have shown that exploring the effects of Cu 2+ -stressed on growth and development genome holds significant scientific importance. There are three major challenges in current studies genomic data analysis: firstly, lack available which limits researchers analysis. Secondly, to best our knowledge, there no Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature selection models designed specifically for genome. Unlike human data, noise a more serious problem. Third, how choose those genes located pathway enrichment region. Existing assume each gene probe has same priori weight. However, usually pay attention probes Based above challenges, we initially construct experiments establish new dataset. Subsequently, propose AWGE-ESPCA: edge Sparse PCA model based adaptive elimination regularization weighted network. The AWGE-ESPCA innovatively proposes method, effectively addressing challenge data. We also integrate known gene-pathway quantitative information into PCA(SPCA) framework as allows filter out pathway-rich regions much possible. Ultimately, this study conducts five independent compared four latest well representative supervised unsupervised baseline validate performance. experimental results demonstrate superior capabilities model. Ablation role regularizer network weighting module. To summarize, paper presents innovative analysis, can help identify potential biomarkers.
