Tulou, Tubao, and Zhailu all belong to the same vernacular architectural defensive rammed earth dwellings in Fujian; however, because of similarity their earthen functions fortress systems, they are easily confused by scholars there is still a gap distinguishing in-depth differences between three. For first time, this article develops proper typology with comparative analysis five aspects (origin prototype, plan type, building function settlement typology, structure type construction technology, ethical concept model) distinguish features. We find that have different prototypes types. Tubao dwelling residential function, Tulou combines living defense. They six structural Although has simplest thinnest wall, its technology best. more clearly defined levels than Tubao’s hierarchy most significant. Therefore, we prove despite similarities, types buildings. This study helps provide methodological guide for identifying other, similar buildings serves as manual restoration sustainable development dwelling.

In previous years, construction has proven that the development model of urbanization, large-scale demolition and construction, pursuit efficiency are not suitable for rural areas. We need to explore new ways more in line with development. Catalyst Theory is process generating catalytic reactions through small-scale element modification or introduction, driving activation rate surrounding spaces, striving create a spatial “small leads large” minimal cost investment intervention. Based on our team's field research data Qiangang Village over past six we have proposed planning concept “Old - Catalyst” constructed framework catalyst, functional cultural catalyst.
