Cities need to make themselves energy self-sufficient by exploiting renewable sources and, above all, evaluate the potential and constraints that each city can express virtue of its own characteristics. This study focused on how realisation a community could be approached in urbanised contexts. The methodology involved selection three case studies Rome analysing feasibility, programming design scale, implications planning RECs. Through simulation at levels detail, this identifies elements assess feasibility RECs elaborate scenarios support their dimensioning. practical importance is identify possible methodological path relevant factors which public or private stakeholders consider different setting up an urban context. research conclusions these simulations point out specificities context affect many factors, among important role played facilities spaces for use, as they are synergetic shared use between residential non-residential functions, but because also available accommodate services community.

ABSTRACT This article offers a comprehensive examination of integrating transition studies and policy in the context energy transitions, highlighting importance participatory governance, reflexive frameworks, innovation ecosystems. By combining insights from studies, such as niche innovations, multilevel socio‐technical regime shifts, with studies' institutional analysis, paper provides holistic framework using Germany's Energiewende case study. It explores how governance enhances legitimacy adapts to emerging challenges, sustaining long‐term transitions. The demonstrates value inclusive where stakeholder engagement bolsters both social acceptance. approach also shows that empowering local communities can lead increased trust cooperation implementing policies. leveraging frameworks support ecosystems, Germany has been able integrate renewable technologies into existing infrastructures. Additionally, aligning initiatives national policies proven critical maintaining momentum integration reveals is essential accelerate sustainable while ensuring equitable participation. Further, adaptive measures highlight iterative feedback supports continuous learning flexibility pathways. underscores necessity balancing technological equity ensure just transition. argues these fields better explanatory practical strategies for overcoming obstacles. concludes recommendations future research development, emphasizing inclusivity, adaptability, creating systems.

Mediterranean rural settlements suffer from numerous environmental challenges, specifically the annual decrease of farmlands, climate change threats, and growing resource consumption demand, such as energy, core development. Rural areas play a significant role in achieving food security sustainable Therefore, this paper promotes energy community agrivoltaic key concepts pillars to show how buildings farms’ land uses positively impact ecosystem. The study focused on Egypt Italy representatives entire region. Two with same characteristics representing typical agriculture-based patterns have been selected: Lasaifar Albalad, 339 villages Delta Region, northern Egypt, Pontinia, typologies 1930s Lazio central Italy. Then, two focus groups versatile stakeholders were conducted. results showed juxtaposition national agricultural policies fostered novel approach between presented first analysis both contexts. promoted ideas, led better understanding implementation possibilities, raised awareness, improved social acceptance, highlighted barriers. It paved way for further (micro-scale on-ground practices) be planned implemented soon.

Cities are responsible for 65% of energy consumption and the 70% CO2 emissions. Incisive actions fundamental to bring cities towards climate neutrality by 2050 working citizens. For this reason, “100 climate-neutral Mission” anticipates target 2030. The objective paper, developed within H2020 GRETA project—GReen Energy Transition Actions (GA101022317), is investigate communities city contracts as key interventions face ambitious goal implementing citizens-centered cities. To achieve objective, paper structured follows: (1) an updated framework European Italian legislation concerning communities; (2) overview contracts’ definition aspects; (3) a selection analysis communities’ case studies; (4) description already pilot contracts. results provide more advanced knowledge about EU strategies possible contractual agreements that can guarantee commitment between parties allow active participation citizens in system. lessons learned contribute application study, whose first activities also described paper.

Abstract To accelerate the energy transition and achieve needed large-scale transformation to address climate change, different barriers including lock-ins path dependencies, incumbent power structures changing individual collective norms, values, behaviors around need be addressed. Community involvement and citizenship have been crucial drivers in energy transitions worldwide. To deepen our understanding of the transition to further promote citizenship, we leverage Bourdieu’s concept cultural capital shed light on inequities community-centered processes. More specifically, this study demonstrates that is an important indicator individual’s willingness participate renewable energy-related behavior social movements. Using survey data Netherlands as a case study, it finds depending type i.e., material participation (investments) or communicative (protest), different types are play. The results imply nuanced approach towards both concepts, namely capital, needed. scholarly practical implications discussed, concludes with pathways for more comprehensive community engagement.

Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) represent a possible solution to facilitate the transition carbon neutrality and reduce energy poverty in urban areas. Although topic has received little attention from planning scholars practitioners, they can make significant contribution enhancement of RECs. To this end, article proposes methodology that allows identifying priority areas where Municipal Urban Plan incentivize RECs’ establishment. These are spatially identified minimization constraints on formation maximization their social benefits expected. The application proposed an Italian municipal area is being drawn up presented. obtained results show how be found both center rural areas, suggesting encourage different REC configurations, depending settlement fabric land use, as well number buildings clustered potential leaders who lead community development process.
