Background:
The
Second
Victim
Phenomenon
(SVP)
significantly
impacts
the
well-being
of
healthcare
professionals
and
patient
safety.
While
SVP
has
been
explored
in
various
settings,
there
are
limited
data
on
its
prevalence
associated
factors
among
nurses
Austria.
This
study
investigates
prevalence,
symptomatology,
preferred
support
measures
for
Austrian
nurses.
Methods:
A
nationwide,
cross-sectional,
anonymous
online
survey
was
conducted
September
to
December
2023
using
SeViD
questionnaire
(Second
Victims
German-speaking
Countries),
which
includes
Big
Five
Inventory-10
(BFI-10).
Statistical
analyses
included
binary
logistic
regression
multiple
linear
bias-corrected
accelerated
(BCa)
bootstrapping
method
based
5000
bootstrap
samples.
Results:
total
928
participants
responded
with
a
response
rate
15.47%.
were
average
42.42
years
old
mainly
women
(79.63%).
Among
respondents,
81.58%
(744/912)
identified
as
(SVs).
primary
cause
becoming
an
SV
aggressive
behavior
from
patients
or
relatives.
Females
reported
higher
symptom
load
than
males,
agreeableness
linked
increased
severity.
Notably,
92.47%
SVs
who
sought
help
colleagues,
most
pronounced
desire
process
event
better
understanding.
Conclusions:
is
alarmingly
high,
significant
trigger.

strategies,

peer

organizational
interventions
mitigate

Background:

victim
phenomenon

moral
injury
are
acknowledged
entities
of
psychological
harm
for
healthcare
providers.

studies
in
Germany
Austria
showed
a
prevalence

physicians,

German
instruments

this
study

feasibility

Tool
Revised
Version
(G-SVESTR),

Symptom
Scale
Health
Professionals
(G-MISS-HP).
Results:
Out
108
participants,
67
completed
survey.
In
G-SVESTR,
collegial
support
items
exhibited
lower
internal
consistency
than
prior
studies,
while
all
other
scales
good-quality
properties.
Personality
traits,
especially
neuroticism,
negatively
correlated
age,
seem
play
significant
role
symptom
count
warrant
evaluation.
Multiple
linear
regression
indicated
that
agreeableness,
G-MISS-HP
were
predictors
count.
Furthermore,
partially
mediated
relationship

Abstract
Background
When
healthcare
students
witness,
engage
in,
or
are
involved
in
an
adverse
event,
it
often
leads
to
a
second
victim
experience,
impacting
their
mental
well-being
and
influencing
future
professional
practice.
This
study
aimed
describe
the
efforts,
methods,
outcomes
of
interventions
help
disciplines
cope
with
emotional
experience
being
witnessing
mistake
causing
harm
patient
during
clerkships
training.
Methods
