After the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020, public health restrictions were introduced to slow transmission and prevent systems overload globally. Work-from-home requirements, online schooling, social isolation measures required adaptations that may have exposed parents children family violence, including intimate partner violence child abuse neglect, especially in early days of pandemic. Abstract Background Parents and caregivers belonged to those with the highest burdens during COVID-pandemic. Violence against children is a significant problem, particularly during early childhood development. Spanking and other forms of corporal punishment in child-rearing have been used by families worldwide to correct children’s unwanted behaviors. Despite previous studies focusing on the negative consequences these parental practices, open questions remain. The present study aimed systematically review empirical published scientific literature that examined associations between parenting practices spanking mothers their behaviors development childhood. Search was performed PubMed, APA PsycNet, Web Science, SciELO, LILACS databases using combination following keywords: ((spank OR physical abuse maltreatment punishment) AND (parenting)) (child* child* behavior). inclusion exclusion criteria were applied 34 articles selected for review. following: evaluated maternal or 0-to-6-year-old children; quantitative studies; English, Spanish, Portuguese language. results showed 94% studies, there with deteriorated child behavior development, concurrently later. Although it has been proposed that the COVID-19 pandemic increased risk of parental burnout and child maltreatment in families, parent-reported empirical evidence is scarce. Furthermore, unknown whether different profiles can be identified among parents based on physical violence, emotional neglect, how these differ family-related background variables. We adopted a person-oriented approach examined Finnish their association with The participants were 967 (88% mothers) who filled questionnaire during lockdown Spring 2020. data analyzed using k-means cluster analysis, one-way analysis variance (ANOVA), chi-square test, Kruskal–Wallis multinominal regression. found four profiles: no (67.4%), (21.3%), neglectful (7.3%), diverse (3.9%). The COVID-19 pandemic caused a threat to the safety of children and families. This scoping review synthesized findings about prevalence child maltreatment (CM) during pandemic. PRISMA guidelines were followed in current study. According most studies (85,7%) involving units where CM reports are received, reporting rates have decreased. However, rate traumatic injury or hospitalization due physical abuse has increased. Community-based parents survey show an increase excluding sexual abuse. decrease ranged from 8% 55,3%, while 1,12% 33,3%. As another finding, parental/ socioeconomic characteristics (e.g., unemployment, parenting stress) increased risk CM.
