Osteoporosis is a growing public health concern in aging populations such as Taiwan, where limited utilization of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) often leads to underdiagnosis and even delayed treatment. Therefore, we leveraged machine learning (ML) aimed develop simple easily accessible model that effectively identifies individuals at high risk osteoporosis. This retrospective analysis enrolled 5510 men aged ≥50 years 4720 postmenopausal women who underwent DXA the Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, with another cohort 610 523 for validation. We developed separate models using decision trees, random forests, support vector machines, k-nearest neighbors, extreme gradient boosting, artificial neural networks (ANNs) predict Furthermore, compared each traditional Self-Assessment Tool Asians (OSTA) model. identified age, height, weight, BMI variables our prediction evaluated model's performance area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The ANN significantly outperformed OSTA all other ML both (AUC: 0.67 men; 0.77 women). validation data showed similar AUCs women. study help identify osteoporosis southern Taiwan. Our models, especially model, surpassed consistently performed well across different populations.

Osteoporosis is a type of bone loss disease characterized by reduction in mass and microarchitectural deterioration tissue. With the intensification global aging, this now regarded as one major public health problems that often leads to unbearable pain, risk fractures, even death, causing an enormous burden at both human socioeconomic layers. Classic anti-osteoporosis pharmacological options include anti-resorptive anabolic agents, whose ability improve mineral density resist fracture being gradually confirmed. However, long-term or high-frequency use these drugs may bring some side effects adverse reactions. Therefore, increasing number studies are devoted finding new pathogenesis potential therapeutic targets osteoporosis, it great importance comprehensively recognize osteoporosis develop viable efficient approaches. In study, we systematically reviewed literatures clinical evidences mechanistically clinically demonstrate state-of-art advances osteoporosis. This work will endow readers with mechanistical knowledge furthermore present most updated therapies.

Abstract Background With increasing life expectancy and a growing population of older adults, the prevalence osteoporosis has risen, resulting in higher incidence bone fractures, which necessitate extended treatment specialized medical care. This study investigates relationship between smoking, alcohol consumption, drug abuse, among adults southern Iran, utilizing cohort data. Methods cross–sectional is derived from Fasa Adult Cohort Study (FACS), included 10,133 individuals. From this cohort, we selected 1,631 using census sampling methods. Our aimed to explore correlation abuse osteoporosis. We collected demographic information, nutritional indexes, history, glucocorticoid usage, self-reported data on through questionnaires. To investigate alcohol, use with while accounting for confounding factors, employed logistic regression analysis. Results The average age participants was 64.09 ± 3.8 years, majority (898 (55.1%)) being female. Osteoporosis subjects 25.20%. results did not reveal significant ( p > 0.05). Regression analysis identified gender, recent history fractures within past five glucocorticoids, physical activity as predictive risk factors < Conclusion underscores significance addressing adults. Healthcare policymakers administrators can these findings identify mitigate influential contributing demographic.

Introduction Population ageing in Africa is increasing healthcare demands. Hip fractures require multidisciplinary care and are considered an indicator condition for age-related health services. We aimed to estimate current hip fracture incidence Zimbabwe, compare rates against other regional estimates future numbers. Methods All cases adults aged ≥40 years, presenting any hospital Harare over 2 were identified. From this, age- sex-specific per 100 000 person-years estimated using 2022 Zimbabwean Census data compared with South African Botswanan estimates. Furthermore, the United Nations population projections, numbers 2052 Zimbabwe. Results In 2022, 1 83 312 women 79 212 men years living (14.9% of city’s population). Over 243 cases, 133 (54.7%) female, mean (SD) age 71.2 (15.9) Most presented public hospitals (202 [83.1%]) fragility (211 [86.8%]); high-impact trauma (eg, traffic accidents) was more common younger men. Presentation delays >2 weeks (37.4%). Incidence (observed) Zimbabwe (estimated) 33.5 53.8/100 person-years, respectively. 50, increased age, highest seen ≥85 (704/100 person-years). Age-standardised broadly comparable between Botswana Black Africans those 40–69 years; thereafter, exceed Africa. Across number occurring annually expected increase than 2.5-fold from 1709 4414 by 2052. Conclusion most ≥50 fractures, consistent age-associated osteoporosis; previously reported regionally. Demands on already challenged systems will increase.

Abstract This study investigates the correlation between body mass index (BMI) and osteoporosis utilizing data from Taiwan Biobank. Initially, a comprehensive analysis of 119,009 participants enrolled 2008 to 2019 was conducted assess association BMI prevalence. Subsequently, longitudinal cohort 24,507 participants, initially free osteoporosis, underwent regular follow-ups every 2–4 years analyze risk development, which subset main cohort. Participants were categorized into four groups: underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m 2 ), normal weight (18.5 ≤ 24 overweight (24 27 obese groups ≥ ). A T-score − 2.5 standard deviations below that young adult defined as osteoporosis. Overall, 556 (14.1%), 5332 (9.1%), 2600 (8.1%) 1620 (6.7%) in underweight, weight, groups, respectively, had higher prevalence noted group compared with (odds ratio [OR], 2.20; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.99 2.43; p value 0.001) multivariable binary logistic regression analysis. Furthermore, during mean follow-up 47 months, incident found 61 (9%), 881 (7.2%), 401 (5.8%) 213 (4.6%) respectively. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards revealed than (hazard [HR], 1.63; CI 1.26 2.12; 0.001). Our results suggest is associated both incidence In addition, an independent factor for developing These findings highlight importance maintaining optimal bone health.

Ethanol, a bioactive compound prevalent in both social and industrial applications, is present alcoholic beverages as well range of everyday products. In food, ethanol functions primarily an additive or by-product fermentation, while pharmaceuticals cosmetics, it serves solvent preservative. Despite its widespread use, three critical research gaps exist current literature. First, existing focuses predominantly on single-sector analyses, overlooking the cumulative effects cross-sectoral exposure. Second, despite growing global market integration, there limited understanding how cultural religious requirements influence ethanol-related regulations product formulations. Third, economic models fail to integrate health impact costs compliance expenses, hindering effective policy development. The World Health Organization has determined that no amount alcohol consumption can be considered entirely safe, ethanol's impacts include contributions chronic diseases, neurotoxicity, potential carcinogenic effects. These risks are compounded by pervasive often unrecognized presence various products, particularly affecting vulnerable populations. burden associated with alcohol-related issues, including lost productivity healthcare costs, highlights necessity for robust public strategies stringent regulatory guidelines. This review investigates role across multiple domains, emphasizing medicine, evaluates broader implications health, practices, impact. recommend implementing standardized labeling systems, establishing cultural-sensitive alternatives formulations, developing harmonized international guidelines use industries.
