Evidence suggests that gut microbiome changes upon hypobaric hypoxia exposure; however, it remains elusive whether this change is a merely derivational reflection of host physiological alteration, or synergizes to exacerbate high-altitude diseases. We intervened in the rat model prolonged challenge and found intervention could alleviate symptoms pathological cardiac hypertrophy, microbial dysbiosis, metabolic disruptions certain metabolites plasma induced by hypoxia.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a chronic and fatal disease, for which new therapeutic drugs approaches are needed urgently. Baicalein baicalin, the active compounds of traditional Chinese medicine, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, exhibit wide range pharmacological activities. Numerous studies involving in vitro vivo models PH have revealed that treatment with baicalin baicalein may be effective. This review summarizes potential mechanisms driving beneficial effects on PH, including anti-inflammatory response, inhibition pulmonary smooth muscle cell proliferation endothelial-to-mesenchymal transformation, stabilization extracellular matrix, mitigation oxidative stress. The pharmacokinetics these also been reviewed. warrants their continued study as natural treatments PH.

Background and objectives Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a pathology with different symptoms in which the organism not adapted to environment that occurs under special of high altitude. Its main mechanism organism’s tissue damage caused by acute hypobaric hypoxia. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory focuses on holistic concept. TCM has made remarkable achievements treatment many sicknesses. This review outlines pathogenesis AMS modern traditional medicine, progress animal models AMS, summarizes therapeutic effects AMS. Methods Using keywords “traditional medicine,” “herbal “acute sickness,” “high-altitude pulmonary edema,” cerebral hypoxia,” “high-altitude,” all relevant literature published up November 2023 were collected from Scopus, Web Science, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, key information was analyzed. Results We systematically summarised hypoxia tissues organism, study methodology for establishment an model retrieved 18 proprietary medicines clinical The principle mainly invigorating qi, activating blood removing stasis. components botanical drugs include salidroside, ginsenoside Rg1, tetrahydrocurcumin. action through regulation HIF-1α/NF-κB signaling pathway, inhibition inflammatory response oxidative stress, enhancement energy metabolism. Conclusion unclear. Still, formulas have been used treat multifaceted interventions, such as compound danshen drip pills, Huangqi Baihe granules, Rg1. These generally exert anti-AMS pharmacological inhibiting expression VEGF, concentration MDA pro-inflammatory factors, down-regulating NF-κB/NLRP3 promoting SOD Na + -K -ATPase activities, attenuates hypoxia-induced injury. comprehensively analyses application makes suggestions more in-depth studies future, aiming provide some ideas insights subsequent studies.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a plant-derived compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) still an incurable disease. CBD has been suggested to ameliorate monocrotaline (MCT)-induced PH, including reduction in right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP), vasorelaxant effect on pulmonary arteries decrease the white blood cell count. The aim of our study was investigate chronic administration (10 mg/kg daily for 21 days) parameters oxidative stress inflammation lungs rats MCT-induced PH. In we found total capacity (TAC) glutathione level (GSH), increase inflammatory parameters, e.g., tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), nuclear kappa B (NF-κB), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), cluster differentiation 68 (CD68), overexpression cannabinoid receptors type 1 2 (CB1-Rs, CB2-Rs). Administration increased TAC GSH concentrations, reductase (GSR) activity, decreased CB1-Rs expression levels mediators such as TNF-α, IL -1β, NF-κB, MCP-1 CD68. conclusion, effects may act adjuvant therapy but further detailed preclinical clinical studies are recommended confirm promising results.

Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) is characterized by sustained elevation of artery pressure produced vasoconstriction and hyperproliferative remodeling the subsequent right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH). The search for therapeutic targets cardiovascular pathophysiology has extended in many directions. However, studies focused on mitigating high-altitude (HAPH) have been rare. Because AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) involved metabolic pathology, AMPK often studied as a potential target. best sensor cellular energy that can also restore homeostasis. implicated other pathways with vasculoprotective effects. Notably, stress increases intracellular ADP/ATP or AMP/ATP ratio, activation restores ATP levels activating energy-producing catabolic inhibiting energy-consuming anabolic pathways, such cell growth proliferation promoting protection. Thus, plays an important role antiproliferative, antihypertrophic antioxidant HPH. contradictory roles HPH development. This review describes main findings related to participation its It extrapolates known functions discuss less-studied HAPH context.
