Abstract Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a heterogeneous condition characterized by steatosis, inflammation, consequent fibrosis, and cirrhosis. Chronic impairment of lipid metabolism closely related to oxidative stress, leading cellular lipotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress. The detrimental effect stress usually accompanied changes in antioxidant defense mechanisms, with the alterations enzymes expression/activities during MASLD development progression reported many clinical experimental studies. This review will provide comprehensive overview present research on MASLD-induced catalytic activity expression main (superoxide dismutases, catalase, glutathione peroxidases, S-transferases, reductase, NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase) level non-enzymatic glutathione. Furthermore, an therapeutic effects vitamin E be presented. Generally, at beginning development, expression/activity increases protect organisms against increased production reactive oxygen species. However, advanced stage MASLD, several antioxidants generally decreases due damage hepatic extrahepatic cells, which further exacerbates damage. Although results obtained patients, various animal or cell models have been inconsistent, taken together importance has clearly shown.
