Abstract Background The mucus from fish and gastropods contains a wide range of bioactive molecules with biomedical properties. were collected Oragadam lake, Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. In this study, we wanted to examine the anticancer potential mucus. biochemical components crude screened. Results analysis showed that Anabas testudineus Pila virens contained high level carbohydrates (2.8 1.5 mg/ml), Channa striata lipids (0.9 Helix aspersa protein (1.3 mg/ml). results morphological variations in HT-29 cells upon treatment Upon 24 h gestation, frozen began shrink seem round shape. Using MTT assay, extract was evaluated for its properties against human colon cancer cell line (HT 29). inhibitory concentration (IC50) determined at 100 µg/ml after h. specific staining techniques; fluorescent microscopy utilized morphology early late apoptotic stages. Propidium iodide nuclear damage followed by DNA damage. This rudimentary could prompt death increased number fragments concentration, respectively. Conclusion study edible or commercially important gastropod have activity cells.

Marine organisms serve as a rich source of bioactive natural compounds, including antimicrobial agents. Jellyfish, which are ancient marine invertebrates with hundreds millions years evolutionary history, have been in continuous contact diverse array pathogenic microorganisms from seawater, may give rise to distinctive innate immune system and related defensive molecules. However, it is difficult inefficient isolate active ingredients directly jellyfish for enrichment, though few jellyfish-sourced peptides (AMPs) reported. In this study, we utilized transcriptomic big data bioinformatic tools dig deeper into potential components jellyfish, identified new AMP JFP-2826 Rhopilema esculentum. The 20-mer peptide exhibited an alpha-helix structure showed activity against selected bacterial strains; more importantly, demonstrated good selectivity marine-specific Vibrio vulnificus. Sequence analysis the full-length protein revealed that derived housekeeping gene glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), probably produced through enzymatic cleavage N-terminal fragment. This suggests GAPDH might newly discovered antimicrobial-related function conducted by releasing JFP-2826-like cryptic peptides. can be subjected further structural modifications optimizations potentially become potent lead development novel drugs treating infections pathogens.
