This study is the first to report Blastocystis sp. in dairy cattle from Terceira Island, part of Azores Archipelago. an enteric protozoan with high genetic diversity and associated both zoonotic non-zoonotic subtypes (STs). The present survey aimed fill gap knowledge regarding occurrence characterization isolates Holstein-Friesian this geographical area. A total 116 stool samples were thus collected cows, DNA was detected using qPCR. results revealed a 14.7% rate (17/116), seven STs identified including ST3, ST5, ST7, ST10, ST14, ST25, ST42, variable frequency. Some these (ST5, ST14) are potentially zoonotic, underscoring their potential public health significance. However, low frequency animal cohort possibly attributed extensive grazing system practiced on Island limited presence isolates, suggests minimal risk transmission humans. highlights importance further research dynamics sp., particularly regions varying farming practices, better understand its epidemiology potential.

Blastocystis is one of the most common zoonotic intestinal protozoa with global distribution and can cause gastrointestinal syndrome mainly characterized by diarrhea. School children are main susceptible population. No epidemiological data on among school in Hainan, only tropical island province China. Between March 2021 June 2023, 1973 fecal samples were collected from across three regions Hainan province. was examined amplifying small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene via polymerase chain reaction (PCR), subtypes identified through DNA sequencing phylogenetic analysis. The overall prevalence 7.3 % (144/1973). differences infection rates different regions, nationalities, educational stages statistically significant (P < 0.001). Five identified, which ST3 dominant subtype (60.4 %; 87/144), followed ST1 (27.8 40/144), ST7 (10.4 15/144), ST6 (0.7 1/144), ST2 1/144). 42 known sequences 15 novel including eight new variations (ST1-16∼ST1-23) similarities ranging 98.3 to 99.78 seven (ST7-7∼ST7-13) 97.7 99.79 intra-subtype genetic polymorphisms results evaluate public health risks sources discussed, providing important basic for effective prevention control parasitic diseases Hainan.

Blastocystis, a common protist in the human gastrointestinal tract, exhibits substantial genetic diversity and has been linked to varying clinical outcomes. However, its role health remains debated, with studies suggesting both commensal pathogenic interactions. This scoping review aims systematically map existing evidence on association between Blastocystis presence Herein, we present our proposed protocol, where, using systematic search methods, will be identified from multiple databases, focusing diagnostic procedures, outcomes, treatment options. Findings provide comprehensive map, highlighting knowledge gaps guiding future research. The resulting data is intended inform public perspectives potential implications for health.

Blastocystis sp. is frequently identified in humans and several animal hosts exhibiting a wide genetic diversity. Within One Health perspective, data on distribution its circulating subtypes (STs) from the terrestrial environment are available, while those marine remain still scare. A 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis were conducted over period 2022-2024 by screening fecal samples four different species of free-ranging mammals (sperm, fin, long-finned pilot Cuvier's beaked whales) within North-Western Mediterranean Sea. 10 out 43 (23.2 %) found positive to using molecular tools. predominance zoonotic subtype ST3 among as well presence ST1 allele 4 even untypable fin whale specimen was reported. Moreover, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes Proteobacteria Blastocystis-carrier mammal identification Archaebacteria Methanomethylophilaceae family isolate detected Illumina V3-V4 generated data. Blastocystis is a common intestinal protist with global distribution, frequently found in humans and various animals. Despite its prevalence, role human health remains debated, oscillating between being harmless commensal potential pathogen. It has also been associated gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) inflammatory disease (IBD). In Italy, the genetic spatial diversity of understudied, despite country’s diverse urbanized environmental landscapes. This study investigates haplotypic clinical isolates across two different Italian regions, an emphasis on subtype distribution variation. Using network-based haplotype analysis, reveals heterogeneous ST4 (47.3%) most prevalent, followed by ST3 (20%), ST1 (16.4%), ST2 (12.7%), ST6 (1.8%) ST7 (1.8%). The overall infection rate detected from symptomatic patients 9.75%. Notably, shows limited variation, suggesting more stable population structure that potentially linked to human-adapted lineage. contrast, exhibit greater diversity, likely due ongoing zoonotic transmission. These findings enhance our understanding epidemiology Italy underscore need for further research pathogenic transmission dynamics.

Blastocystis sp. is a zoonotic intestinal protozoan that ubiquitous globally, residing in the gastrointestinal tracts of both humans and various animals. In present study, PCR-sequencing tool based on SSU rRNA gene was employed to investigate prevalence subtypes spp. 204 fresh fecal samples collected from 20 captive wildlife species bird park Henan Province, Central China. Overall, 13.73% (28 out 204) 25% (5 20) species. A total four were found: ST1, ST3, ST5, ST27, with latter being most prevalent, accounting for 35.71% (10 28) 5 positive To best our knowledge, this first report ST27 birds China, namely bar-headed goose ( Anser indicus) peafowl Pavo muticus ). The data suggest wildlife, particularly those parks, may frequently be infected pathogen. Consequently, these animals serve as potential reservoirs infections humans.
