Obesity is associated with a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Recently, growing body evidence shows that phytochemicals, especially many flavonoids, place an inhibitory regulatory effect on adipogenesis, obesity diabetes. With computer-aided drug discovery, the action modes more bioactive flavonoids are being identified confirmed at molecular level. Citrus fruit peels particularly rich in which have demonstrated strong therapeutic potentials regulating lipid metabolisms. However, they usually thrown away after consuming flesh, sometimes even causing environmental problems. Thus, extraction useful from citrus waste for pharmaceutical industry could be profitable environmentally friendly solution future, advocating concepts circular economy sustainable society. The aim this review to summarize current antiobesity antidiabetic extracted fruits. Our results suggest various potential sources novel drugs nutraceuticals. Combining experimental data artificial intelligence methods study would facilitate discovery against obesity-related diseases.

Food processing sustainability, as well waste minimization, are key concerns for the modern food industry. A significant amount of is generated by fruit juice industry each year. In addition to economic losses caused removal these wastes, its impact on environment undeniable. Therefore, researchers have focused recovering bioactive components from processing, in which a great number phytochemicals still exist agro-industrial help minimize burden provide new sources compounds, believed be protective agents against certain diseases such cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. Although wastes contain non-negligible amounts information utilization byproducts functional ingredient/food production their sensory quality products scarce. this regard, review summarizes most recent literature compounds present apple, citrus fruits, berries, stoned melons, tropical juices, together with extraction techniques valorization approaches. Besides, one hand, examples different current applications use provided. On other challenges respect economic, sensory, safety issues also discussed.

Plant fibers in byproduct streams produced by non-harsh food processing methods represent biorepositories of diverse, naturally occurring, and physiologically active biomolecules. To demonstrate one approach for their characterization, mass spectrometry intestinal contents from gnotobiotic mice, plus vitro studies, revealed liberation N-methylserotonin orange human gut microbiota members including Bacteroides ovatus. Functional genomic analyses B. ovatus strains grown under permissive non-permissive "mining" conditions polysaccharide utilization loci that target pectins whose expression correlate with strain-specific this compound. N-methylserotonin, orally administered to germ-free reduced adiposity, altered liver glycogenesis, shortened transit time, changed genes regulate circadian rhythm the colon. In dose-dependent, orange-fiber-specific fecal accumulation positively correlated levels microbiome encoding enzymes digest pectic glycans. In this work, seven Citrus aurantium essential oils (EOs) derived from flavedo of cultivars ‘Canaliculata’, ‘Consolei’, ‘Crispifolia’, ‘Fasciata’, ‘Foetifera’, ‘Listata’, and ‘Bizzaria’ were investigated. EOs also combined in 1:1 (v/v) ratio to identify possible synergism or antagonism actions. GC-MS analysis was done investigate Eos’ phytochemical profiles. The antioxidant activity studied by using a multi-target approach based on FRAP, DPPH, ABTS, β-carotene bleaching tests. A great difference observed EOs’ d-limonene (33.35–89.17%) the main monoterpene hydrocarbon, α-Pinene, β-myrcene, β-linalool identified almost all samples. Among EOs, only C3 showed high quantitative qualitative variability its chemical composition. diversity demonstrated PCA HCA statistical analysis. Samples C2, C4, C5, C6, C7 statistically similar each other, while C1 characterized as having different amount other compounds oxygenated monoterpenes, respectively, with respect mentioned. global score (GAS) revealed that among tested C. ‘Fasciata’ EO had highest potential, GAS value −0.47, whereas combinations, obtained mixing ‘Canaliculata’ + most active. Comparison theoretical real data inhibitory concentration (IC50) FRAP values did not reveal any significant effect actions be valid biological applied These findings, considered together, represent an important starting point understand which are responsible for activities their future industrial application.

Citrus fruits belong to the Rutaceae family, which comprises sweet oranges, sour and bitter mandarins, lemons, limes, grapefruit, pomelo, citrons, etc, a wide range of hybrids cybrids. The presence vitamin flavonoid enhance nutritional medicinal properties. Hesperidin, found in citrus is one major flavonoids binds with active protein site severe acute respiratory syndrome, SARS-CoV-2 (Corona Virus-2). also helps boost immunity. Fruits cannot be kept for longer period under normal conditions due postharvest decay causes heavy economic losses up 30% total production can go 50% underdeveloped countries. This post-harvest loss non-utilization wastage world need security prevent pandemic hidden hunger. So, it required process fruit form canned products, squash, juice, juice concentrate, puree, essential oil, pickle, vinegar, etc enriched & fortified products such as vermicelli or cookies orange peel powder help immunity issues utilization citrus. by-product obtained after processing used extract oil pectin from waste. value addition, enrichment, fortification reach people consumption develop Hence, could reduce activity against COVID virus; resolve issue

The volatile composition leaf EO (LLEO) was analyzed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry combined flame ionization detection (GC/MS GC/FID). most abundant component LLEO limonene (260.7 mg/mL), followed geranial (102.6 mg/mL) neral (88.3 mg/mL). tested using eight bacterial strains two types yeasts a microdilution broth test. Candida albicans showed greatest susceptibility (MIC = 0.625 μL/mL) Listeria monocytogenes Staphylococcus aureus were inhibited at low concentration values 2.5 to 5 μL/mL). C. limon displayed radical scavenging ability (IC50 value 10.24 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazylhydrate (DPPH) assay. A Mediterranean-style diet is highly encouraged thanks to its healthy food pattern, which includes valuable nutraceuticals such as polyphenols. Among these, flavonoids are associated with relevant biological properties through they prevent or fight the onset of several human pathologies. Globally, enhanced incidence overweight and obese people has caused a dramatic increase in comorbidities, raising need provide better therapies. Therefore, development sophisticated animal models metabolic dysregulation allowed for deepening knowledge on this subject. Recent advances using zebrafish (Danio rerio) model disease have yielded fundamental insights into potential anti-obesity effects flavonoids. Chronic low-grade inflammation immune system activation seem characterize pathogenesis obesity; thus, their reduction might improve lipid profile patients illnesses. In review, we highlight beneficial role obesity related diseases linked anti-inflammatory properties. light summarized studies, suggest that therapies could place prevention treatment disorders.
