In recent years, the emergence of drug resistance and sensitivity in leading diseases has heightened global interest natural nutraceuticals as primary health supplements. However, comprehensive scientific scrutiny is essential before marketing these this study, we assessed nutritional composition, antioxidant activities, trace metal accumulation eleven selected Sri Lankan coastal seaweed species. Gracilaria corticata had highest (p < 0.05) ash crude fiber content among Protein ranged from 4.87% to 23.67% (DW), with Ulva rigida displaying 0.05). Crude fat 0.09% 4.13% Cladophora herpestica having content. Sargassam cinereum, Turbinaria ornata Sargassum crassifolium TPC (51.32 ± 0.61–28.90 2.68 mg/GAE g) radical scavenging activity compared other seaweeds. The study findings indicate that most studied metals seaweeds exceeded WHO-recommended levels. Aluminum was accumulated metals. Toxic heavy metals, such arsenic, cadmium chromium, levels all surpassed WHO limits. While displayed acceptable properties, presence poses a potential risk consumers. Products using may have lower quality. Thus, underscores need for investigation developing high-quality food products or supplements

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a global health challenge, constituting major cause of mortality and disease burden in the 21st century. Addressing prevention management NCDs is crucial for improving public health, emphasizing need comprehensive strategies, early interventions, innovative therapeutic approaches to mitigate their far-reaching consequences. Marine organisms, mainly algae, produce diverse marine natural products with significant potential. Harnessing largely untapped potential algae could revolutionize drug development contribute combating NCDs, marking step toward targeted approaches. This review examines bioactive extracts, compounds, commercial derived from macro- microalgae, exploring protective properties against oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, metabolic diseases, cancer across vitro, cell-based, vivo, clinical studies. Most research focuses on macroalgae, demonstrating antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, gut modulation, promotion, anti-cancer effects. Microalgae also exhibit properties. Although studies investigated extracts fractions, isolated compounds have been explored. Notably, polysaccharides, phlorotannins, carotenoids, terpenes emerge as prominent collectively representing 42.4% compounds.

Caulerpa is a marine green macroalga distinguished by large single cell with multiple nuclei. It also exhibits remarkable morphological intraspecies variations, in response to diverse environmental types. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenotypic plasticity remain poorly understood. In work, we compare transcriptomes of okamurae Weber Bosse, 1897 displaying altered phenotypes cultivation and natural investigate significantly regulated genes their biological functions using differential expression analyses. We observe light-harvesting complex upregulation cellular framework stability downregulation compared phenotypes. Intertidal macrophytes reduce light capture avoid photodamage regulate morphology protect against wave damage. contrast, lower conditions environment augment increase prioritizing trapping. Moreover, addition simulated wave-sweeping stimuli induces return under high-light conditions, showing how mechanical stress affects organization C. okamurae. provide detailed gene patterns varying intensities water suggesting distinct influence on its traits.
