Abstract Itaconate (IA) is an endogenous metabolite and a potent regulator of the innate immune system. Its use in immunomodulatory therapies has faced limitations due to inherent challenges achieving controlled delivery requirements for high extracellular concentrations achieve internalization highly polar small molecule its intracellular therapeutic activity. Microparticle (MP)-based strategies are promising approach metabolites through macrophage phagocytosis subsequent polymer degradation-based delivery. Toward goal IA, degradable polyester polymer-(poly(itaconate-co-dodecanediol)) based IA microparticles (IA-MPs) were generated using emulsion method, forming micron-scale (∼ 1.5 µm) microspheres. IA-MPs characterized with respect their material properties release kinetics inform particle fabrication. Treatment murine bone marrow-derived macrophages optimized concentration 0.1 mg/million cells enabled phagocytosis-mediated low levels cytotoxicity. Flow cytometry demonstrated IA-MP-specific regulation IA-sensitive inflammatory targets. Metabolic analyses that IA-MP inhibited oxidative metabolism induced glycolytic reliance, consistent established mechanism IA-associated inhibition succinate dehydrogenase. This development IA-based provides basis additional innovative metabolite-based microparticle drug systems treatment disease.

Abstract With depression being the psychiatric disorder incurring largest societal costs in developed countries, there is a need to gather evidence on role of nutrition depression, help develop recommendations and guide future health care. The aim this systematic review was synthesize link between diet quality, measured using range predefined indices, depressive outcomes. Medline, Embase PsychInfo were searched up 31 st May 2018 for studies that examined adherence healthy relation symptoms or clinical depression. Where possible, estimates pooled random effect meta-analysis with stratification by observational study design dietary score. A total 20 longitudinal 21 cross-sectional included. These utilized an array measures, including: different measures Mediterranean diet, Healthy Eating Index (HEI) Alternative HEI (AHEI), Dietary Approaches Stop Hypertension, Inflammatory Index. most compelling found incident combined relative risk estimate highest vs. lowest category from four 0.67 (95% CI 0.55–0.82). lower also associated incidence (relative 0.76; 95% CI: 0.63–0.92). There fewer other but they suggest inverse association (e.g., 0.65; 0.50–0.84 HEI/AHEI). To conclude, adhering particular traditional avoiding pro-inflammatory appears confer some protection against studies. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are of increasing concern for society and national governments, as well globally due to their high mortality rate. The main risk factors NCDs can be classified into the categories self-management, genetic factors, environmental medical conditions, socio-demographic factors. focus is on elements self-management reach a consensus about influence food management actions toward prevention at all stages life. Nutrition interventions essential in managing NCDs. As they utmost importance, this review highlights outlines several common strategies. We foresee that best strategy will include individual (lifestyle management), societal (awareness (health policy decisions), global strategy) elements, with target actions, such multi-sectoral partnership, knowledge information management, innovations. most effective preventative one leads changes lifestyle respect diet, physical activities, cessation smoking, control metabolic disorders.

The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has engulfed the world, affecting more than 180 countries. As a result, there been considerable economic distress globally and significant loss of life. Sadly, vulnerable immunocompromised in our societies seem to be susceptible COVID-19 complications. Global public health bodies governments have ignited strategies issued advisories on various handwashing hygiene guidelines, social distancing strategies, and, most extreme cases, some countries adopted “stay place” or lockdown protocols prevent spread. Notably, are several risk factors for infection. These include presence poor nutritional status pre-existing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes mellitus, chronic lung diseases, cardiovascular (CVD), obesity, other that render patient immunocompromised. characterized systemic inflammation, which may common feature these NCDs, outcomes against COVID-19. In this review, we discuss anti-inflammatory therapies currently under investigation intended dampen cytokine storm infections. Summary An unhealthy diet is a recognized risk factor in the pathophysiology of numerous chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCD), including obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and cardiovascular (CVD). This is, at least part, due to diets causing low‐grade inflammation gut systemically. To characterize inflammatory potential diet, we developed Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII®). Following this development, around 500 papers have been published, which examined association between DII, energy‐adjusted DII (E‐DII™), children's (C‐DII™) many NCDs obesity cardiometabolic diseases. Although previous narrative review published 2019 briefly summarized evidence area, there was significant increase on topic since 2020. Therefore, purpose provide an in‐depth updated by all until July 2021 its relationship with T2DM, CVD. Furthermore, aim identify gaps literature future directions for research. Most studies found that associated increased CVD some relationships being sex‐specific. However, identified paucity describing associations dietary T2DM factors. Few used gold‐standard measures We also lack interventional designed change study effect factors recommend such are needed assess if changes representing independently body composition can modulate

Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a new definition for the evidence of hepatic steatosis and metabolic dysfunctions. The specific role dietary factors in development progress are not well illuminated. Thus, we conducted this study on associations between quality assessed by five indexes (Dietary Inflammatory Index, DII; Mediterranean diet, MED; Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension, DASH; Alternate Healthy Eating Index AHEI; Indices, HEI) MAFLD phenotypes. This was extracted from latest NHANES 2017-2018 wave. Demographic information, health status, lifestyles, habits were reported questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression multivariate ordinal methods applied explore or with fibrosis. weighted prevalence Non-MAFLD, without fibrosis, fibrosis 47.05%, 36.67%, 16.28%, respectively, at cutoff value median Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) 248 dB/m Liver Stiffness Measurement (LSM) 6.3 kPa. When diagnostic values CAP changed 285 dB/m, turned 64.62%, 22.08%, 13.30%, respectively. All indexes, including DII, HEI-2015, AHEI, DASH, MED, all significantly associated DII positively phenotypes, while other four lower risk becoming threatening public concern among adult Americans markedly
