Emerging evidence suggests that diets rich in plant-based foods and beverages may exert plausible effects on human health tackling the risk of chronic diseases. Although data are promising for numerous outcomes, including cardiovascular diseases, mental limited. The aim this study was to investigate association between individual polyphenol-rich intake such as perceived stress, depressive symptoms, sleep quality, among adult individuals living Mediterranean area. demographic dietary characteristics a sample 1572 adults southern Italy were analysed. Multivariate logistic regression analyses, controlling confounding factors, used calculate odds ratios (ORs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) alcoholic containing polyphenols outcomes. multivariate model adjusted background covariates diet showed with moderate (up 1 cup/glass per day) coffee tea less likely have high stress (OR = 0.61, CI: 0.45-0.84) symptoms 0.56, 0.39-0.80), respectively. Furthermore, regular moderate/regular red wine drinkers 0.72, 0.54-0.95 OR 0.74, 0.54-0.99, respectively). No significant associations retrieved quality. In conclusion, results present suggest be associated health, terms stress. Nonetheless, further research exploring how impact brain what optimal patterns consumption different populations warranted.

It is well known that carbohydrates are the main source of calories in most diets. However, by inhibiting carbohydrases, intake reduced and weight loss improved. α-amylase an enzyme hydrolyses α-1,4 glycosidic linkages α-linked polysaccharides, resulting low-molecular-weight products such as glucose, maltose maltotriose, while α-glucosidase catalyzes hydrolysis nonreducing α-1,4-linked glucose moieties from disaccharides or oligosaccharides. Currently, one common nutritional disorders world hyperglycemia. One new therapeutic approaches to treat this disease application natural inhibitors, polyphenols, control starch digestion regulate blood level. Dietary polyphenols showed potential inhibitory activity against review summarizes recently published literature studied inhibition mechanisms structure–activity relationship between individual dietary mentioned digestive enzymes. higher binding interactions cause activities; thus, different can affect steps polysaccharides. The aim clarify these introduce polyphenol-rich functional foods tools for α-glucosidase.

In recent years, plant polyphenols have become a popular focus for the development of novel functional foods. Polyphenols, class bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and lignans, are commonly found in plant-based diets with variety biological actions, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer effects. Unfortunately, not widely used nutraceuticals since many chemicals possess poor oral bioavailability. Thankfully, can be encapsulated transported using bio-based nanocarriers, thereby increasing their Polyphenols' limited water solubility low bioavailability limiting factors practical usage, but this issue resolved if suitable delivery vehicles developed encapsulating delivering polyphenolic compounds. This paper provides an overview study nanocarriers enhancement polyphenol bioavailability, as well summary health advantages prevention treatment several diseases.

Diets enriched in plant-based foods are associated with the maintenance of a good well-being and prevention many non-communicable diseases. The health effects fruits vegetables consumption mainly due to presence micronutrients, including vitamins minerals, polyphenols, plant secondary metabolites. One most important classes phenolic compounds anthocyanins, that confer typical purple-red color foods, such as berries, peaches, plums, red onions, purple corn, eggplants, well carrots, sweet potatoes cabbages, among others. This commentary aims briefly highlight progress made by science last years, focusing on some unexpected aspects related their bioavailability, relationship gut microbiota.

Quercetin is a monomeric polyphenol of plant origin that belongs to the flavonol-type flavonoid subclass. Extensive studies using cultured cells and experimental model animals have demonstrated anti-atherosclerotic effects dietary quercetin in relation prevention cardiovascular disease (CVD). As exclusively present plant-based foods form glycosides, this review focuses on bioavailability bioefficacy glycosides vascular health effects. Some glucose-bound are absorbed from small intestine after glucuronide/sulfate conjugation. Both conjugated metabolites deconjugated aglycones formed by plasma β-glucuronidase activity act as food-derived anti-atherogenic factors exerting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol-lowering However, most reach large intestine, where they subject gut microbiota-dependent catabolism resulting deglycosylated aglycone chain-scission products. These catabolites also affect transfer into circulation. Furthermore, may improve microbiota profiles. A variety human cohort intervention support idea intake glycoside-rich such onion helps prevent CVD. Thus, offer potential benefits terms possible clinical applications.

Flavonoids are found in the roots, stems, leaves, and fruits of many plant taxa. They related to growth development, pigment formation, protection against environmental stress. function as antioxidants exert anti-inflammatory effects cardiovascular system by modulating classical inflammatory response pathways, such TLR4-NF-ĸB, PI3K-AKT, Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathways. There is increasing evidence for therapeutic flavonoids on hypertension, atherosclerosis, other diseases. The potential clinical value diseases has been widely explored. For example, studies have evaluated roles regulation blood pressure via endothelium-dependent non-endothelium-dependent pathways myocardial systolic diastolic functions influencing calcium homeostasis smooth muscle-related protein expression. also hypoglycaemic, hypolipidemic, anti-platelet, autophagy, antibacterial effects. This investigation examines the worldwide impact of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) resulting from inadequate vegetable consumption, based on 2021 Global Burden Disease Study data. The study assessed global, regional, and national repercussions low intake CVD, with a focus variations among different age gender demographics. It further analyzed correlation between disease burden Socio-Demographic Index (SDI), employed an ARIMA model to predict future trends in CVD associated insufficient consumption up 2050. In 2021, diet lacking vegetables was responsible for roughly 682,400 deaths 16 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) attributed indicating declining pattern over recent year. Individuals aged 75 older were predominantly affected. Future projections indicate expected rise incidence lower-middle SDI regions, African nations potentially experiencing increased challenges related by 2030 findings underscore critical necessity preventive measures against emphasize significance improving dietary habits, particularly intake.

The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant capacity fruit wines and their protective effects against hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress in rat synaptosomes vitro. were produced from strawberries drupe fruits (i.e., plum, sweet cherry, peach, apricot) through microvinification with a pure S. cerevisiae yeast culture. Fruit without added sugar before start fermentation, whereas subvariants pits only applied wines. First, treated wines, while induced H2O2. Subsequently, activities enzymes (superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx)) content malondialdehyde (MDA), an indicator membrane injury, determined. In addition, Briggs–Rauscher reaction (BR) used evaluate inhibition free radicals. All investigated increased activity studied decreased MDA compared corresponding controls (synaptosomes H2O2). After synaptosomal treatment plum wine, highest observed for SOD (5.57 U/mg protein) GPx (0.015 protein). Strawberry wine CAT (0.047 showed best ability reduce lipid peroxidation, yielding lowest level (2.68 nmol/mg). Strawberry, cherry identified as samples higher both principal component analysis (PCA) hierarchical cluster (HCA). Finally, exhibited inhibitory BR (397 s). results suggest that could be considered potential functional food due stress.
