The link between gut microbiome and eating behaviours, especially palatable food intake, is a growing focus of scientific investigation. complex ecosystem microorganisms in the influences host metabolism, immune function neurobehavioural signalling. This review explores role neuroinflammation dysregulations food-induced reward signalling potential causal microbiota on these proinflammatory processes. Particular attention given to disorders (ED, specifically anorexia nervosa, binge disorder bulimia nervosa) links with microbiota, alterations neuroinflammation. Finally, we propose modulation as promising therapeutic strategy ED.

Understanding how gut flora interacts with oxidative stress has been the subject of significant research in recent years. There is much evidence demonstrating existence microbiome–oxidative interaction. However, biochemical basis this interaction still unclear. In narrative review, possible pathways microbiota and are presented, among which genetic underpinnings play an important role. Trimethylamine-N-oxide, mitochondria, short-chain fatty acids, melatonin also appear to roles. Moreover, relationship between microbiome obesity, metabolic syndrome, chronic ethanol consumption, dietary supplements, medications considered. An investigation correlation bacterial community features OS parameter changes under normal pathological conditions might provide information for determination new methods. Furthermore, such could contribute establishing a foundation determining linkers microbiome–OS association.

This systematic review explores the associations between qualitative/quantitative changes in gut microbiota and psychopathological symptoms or other clinical features patients with eating disorders (EDs). Secondary outcomes include exploring EDs potential relationships psychotropic drug use. A search was conducted across biomedical databases from inception to June 2024 according PRISMA guidelines. The risk of bias assessed, a narrative synthesis performed due heterogeneity outcomes. Only findings related anorexia nervosa (AN) were identified. Ten studies, which seven longitudinal, two cross-sectional, one interventional (N = 350 AN, 304 HCs), included. Despite no clear links diversity metrics being observed, specific taxa belonging phylum Firmicutes, such as Clostridium, Roseburia, Lactobacillus, Faecalibacterium, Bifidobacterium Actinobacteriota correlated ED psychopathology, including anxiety depressive symptoms. Changes symptoms, well altered behaviours by modulating inflammation insulin pathways through short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), that also lead neurotransmitter imbalances. Further studies are required replicate these finding explore whether similar patterns observed EDs.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe eating disorder that predominantly affects females and typically manifests during adolescence. There increasing evidence serum cytokine levels are altered in individuals with AN. Previous research has largely focused on adult patients, assuming low-grade pro-inflammatory state. The of the tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 IL-15, which pro-inflammatory, were examined 63 female adolescents AN 41 age-matched healthy controls (HC). We included three time points (admission, discharge, 1-year follow-up) investigated clinical data to assess whether gut microbiota was associated alterations. Relative HC group, IL-1β significantly lower acute phase (admission) expression normalised control after weight recovery. TNF-α not different between groups. IL-15 elevated patients at all points. found associations cytokines bodyweight, illness duration, depressive symptoms, microbiome. In contrast most findings for adults, we observed adolescent whereas level consistently increased. Thus, presence inflammatory dysregulation suggests varied rather than uniform
