Morpho-physiological seed diversity and viability of Indonesian cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). Biodiversitas 24: 5319-5327. Cowpea is a legume with potential nutritional content almost equivalent to soybeans; it can be developed as substitute agent for raw materials food processing. One the factors in obtaining high production use quality seeds. Our study aimed evaluate performance morpho-physiological correlations collections from IPB University Bogor Research Institute Legume. We used ten genotypes cowpea, which had superior information. The results showed that viability. germination percentage was categorized medium-high (>60%). Eight were grouped into one major group based on characteristics Furthermore, positive found between observed variables (seed germination, growth speed, vigor index). research are useful source genetic plant breeders developing new varieties future. In addition, agronomists this information cowpeas planting location.

Food insecurity and malnutrition, compounded by climate change, are seriously threatening the growing African population. Unpredictable precipitation patterns droughts contributing to declining crop productivity. Efforts increase agricultural productivity include adoption of crops that resistant change engaging in resilient agriculture. Currently, CRISPR-Cas9 (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats - associated protein) technology is being used breeding practices improve traits such as drought tolerance, nutrition disease resistance. The aim this review explore use developing for mitigation food hunger attendant implications small holder farmers Africa. A comprehensive systematic search peer reviewed articles three bibliographic databases, PubMed, Web Science Google Scholar, was conducted identify documents relevant applications CRISPR-mediated genome editing improvement context. literature shows CRISPR-Cas has been harnessed enhance resilience nutritional content various crops, combatting biotic abiotic stresses. CRISPR-assisted strategies can help smallholder low-middle income countries Africa adapt without loss. By harnessing technology, benefit from with improved yields stress resistance thereby security sustainable agriculture on continent.

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) faces increasing water scarcity, food and nutrition insecurity, poverty inequality under climate change. Flower thrips (Megalurothrips sjostedti Trybom) are a major pest of cowpea worldwide. Although some varieties exhibit resistance to these pests, the underlying mechanisms this remain unclear. This study aimed explore biochemical factors contributing against and measure levels specific compounds in resistant varieties. Six cultivars were tested using randomized complete block design across three field trials. At 44 days after planting, foliage flowers from each variety collected for laboratory analysis. Samples ten randomly chosen plants combined total protein, soluble amino acids, phenols, flavonoids, antioxidants. Data analysis revealed significant differences among lines. Most metabolites, except showed considerable variation Notably, lines TVu1509, Sanzi, TVNu1249 exhibited highest protein. Principal component indicated that first components explained about 83.59% variation, with contributions 36%, 28%, 19%, respectively. In conclusion, certain flower is associated higher

ABSTRACT Cowpea ( Vigna unguiculata ) is an important protein source in Sub‐Saharan Africa. Optimizing resilience and productivity through genetic engineering cowpea has been slow due part to a lack of defined species‐specific regulatory elements difficulty testing gene function within the native system. In many plant species, Agrobacterium ‐mediated transient expression widely used validate constructs before investing transgenic lines, but its implementation legumes challenging. this study, we optimized planta agroinfiltration assay trifoliate leaves using betalain reporter. To demonstrate “intact plant” aspect system, characterize drought‐inducible promoters by challenging plants with drought stress. Subsequently, identify broaden pool known cowpea, developed user‐friendly web application, CowPEAsy, allowing users interrogate from our canopy‐level, developmental‐series RNA‐Seq data set. Finally, identified six that showed constitutive across all conditions verified these This work provides vivo platform for preliminary validation other enhances current resources identifying suite physiologically relevant varying strengths.

Cultivated land is the carrier of food production. As a populous country that regards cultivated as most valuable strategic resource, China has faced challenge phenomenon non-grain production (NGP) in recent years, which attracted great attention from Chinese government. Based on and grain data at plot scale 2000, 2010, 2019, this study explored evolutionary characteristics spatial pattern NGP Guanzhong Plain Shaanxi Province 2000 to 2019 with Geographic Information System analysis. The found clear trend expansion past 20 years. In 54 counties districts Guanzhong, there were different degrees NGP, showing an annual trend. agglomeration effect was significant. This important scientific value understanding patterns provides basis for formulation management policies.
