Previous pepper studies indicated that biomass production and the amounts of bioactive compounds were dependent on light sources, maturity processes genotypes. However, above topic has received little attention in supplemental versus cultivar combinations under a hydroponic growing system. Therefore, aim this study was to evaluate (fruit, root, stem leaf) fruit (vitamin C, total flavonoid content antioxidant capacity-AC-FRAP, polyphenol-TPC) two cultivars (‘Fehérözön’-Fö ‘Szegedi 80’-S80) three stages (green, beaker red) LED treatments (full-F blue-white-BW spectrums) deep water culture The use for significantly different treatments. Light treatments, had significant effects all compounds. results varied according green, red cultivars. In correlation analyses, 30 pair-variables correlated nine showed values r > 0.9 weight (vs.) vitamin vs. AC-FRAP, TPC, C AC-FRAP TPC. This suggested additional lights features genotype strongly determined

Abstract Planned missions to Mars and the moon stress urgency of developing self‐sustaining food production systems for crewed, long‐term, space exploration. Here we discuss agriculture (SpaceAg) as a sustainable complete life support system prolonged travel surface missions. The unique challenges considerations cultivating crops in space, where radiation, gravity, atmosphere temperature differ from Earth, are presented. We selection suitable approaches optimise growth traits ideal plant form, including potential genetic engineering enhance yield nutritional content. Plants can serve multiple roles, providing nutritious foods wellbeing acting biofactories essential pharmaceuticals. need robust efficient controlled environment (CEA) that integral is explored. Finally, promising solutions environments on based SpaceAg research innovation.

Introduction Selecting appropriate light spectra of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and optimal nutrient composition fertilizers has become integral to commercial controlled environment agriculture (CEA) platforms. Methods This study explored the impact three LED regimes (BR: Blue17%, Green 4%, Red 63%, Far-Red 13% infrared 3%, BGR; Blue 20%, 23%, 47%, 8% 2%; GR; 25%, 41%, 32%, 2%) nitrogen levels (3.6 14.3 mM N) on spinach ( Spinacea oleracea ). Results Under limited mM), BGR increased fresh shoot (32%) root (39%) biomass than BR, suggesting additional green light’s assimilating photosynthates under suboptimal availability. Reduced chlorophyll (a b) carotenoid accumulation, electron transport rate (ETR), higher oxalates availability highlighted adverse effects red (BR) productivity. Increased activities nitrogen-associated enzymes (GOGAT; Glutamate synthase, GDH; NADH-Glutamate dehydrogenase, NR; Nitrate reductase, GS; Glutamine synthetase) in plants further validated significance assimilation. Amino acid distributions remained unchanged across spectra, although significantly decreased percent distribution glutamine aspartic acid. Conclusion Overall, this demonstrated favorable impacts productivity, as BGR, GR alone response perturbation. However, exact mechanisms underlying these still need be unveiled. Nevertheless, outcomes provided new insights into our understanding metabolism.

Tunable blue/red dual-emitting Eu3+-doped, Bi3+-sensitized SrF2 phosphors were synthesized utilizing a solvothermal-microwave method. All have cubic structure (Fm-3m (225) space group) and well-distinct sphere-like particles with size of ~20 nm, as examined by X-ray diffraction transmission electron microscopy. The diffuse reflectance spectra reveal redshift the absorption band in UV region Bi3+ concentration SrF2: Eu3+ phosphor increases. Under 265 nm excitation, photoluminescence show emission at around 400 from host matrix characteristic orange 5D0 → 7F1,2 deep red 7F4 emissions. intensity increases an increase up to 20 mol%, after which it decreases. integrated representative mol% co-doped SrF2:10 shows twice bright compared Bi3+-free sample. To demonstrate potential application LEDs for artificial light-based plant factories, powder highest intensity, 10Eu, Bi, was mixed ceramic binder placed on top 275 UVC LED chip, showing pinkish violet light corresponding blue (409 nm) (592, 614, 700 phosphors’ emission.
