The chestnut is a widely appreciated fruit in Europe, Asia, and North America, playing significant role the diets of people these regions. Due to its high nutritional value diverse health benefits, chestnuts have been gaining considerable research attention. aim was comprehensive literature review on benefits sustainable valorization their by-products. Following methodology, all relevant collected reviewed. Based reviewed data, chemical composition holds great importance, especially food industry, where understanding properties can enhance product development. Furthermore, processing generates substantial amount waste, including shells leaves, which are rich bioactive compounds with antioxidant properties. Valorizing by-products presents opportunities for application across various industries, leading increased profits, reduced environmental pollution, enhanced sustainability. This aims provide insights into explore potential alternative applications materials industry. Such will possibly positively affect producers’ income line circular economy strategy.

The sweet chestnut fruit has always had great importance in the southern European countries. Chestnut production is an important source of income and a crop high environmental value thanks to its role soil protection. It also good food with enormous potential for various aspects health because nutritional qualities. quality chestnuts affected by factors, such as climatic conditions cultivation inputs. very recognize impacts climate on fruits, improve our current understanding climate-chestnut interconnections. study investigated compared antioxidant activity total phenolic flavonoid contents different cultivars grown geographic areas northwest Spain. results obtained three capability assays (DPPH, ABTS FRAP assays) were highly correlated. All samples capacity contents, which depended both cultivar growth region. Ventura variety, harvested coldest environments, presented highest values (IC50DPPH = 34.5 g/L), content (131.84 mg equivalent gallic acid/100 g FW) flavonoids (7.77 eq. catechin/100 g). variations capacity, cultivars, their associations revealed significant these factors synthesis specialized metabolites nutraceutical chestnuts. can provide valuable information selection chestnut, order obtain high-quality bioactive characteristics.

Grapes are rich in phenolic compounds, being important for human health with anti-inflammatory, antiatherosclerotic, antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial activity. The winemaking of the grapes generates significant amounts waste. These wastes contain bioactive compounds their biomass that can be used as a source food improvement or nutrition supplementation. This study looks at content polyphenolic profile, antioxidant activity different white red grape pomaces. investigation characteristics (total polyphenols, total flavonoids, catechins, tannins, activity) was carried out by UV-Vis spectrophotometric methods, while individual composition investigated target screening UHPLC-HRMS/MS analysis. Principal components (PCA) heat maps analysis allows discrimination between pomace resulted from cultivars (Muscat Ottonel Tamaioasa Romaneasca) pomaces (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Feteasca Neagra, Burgund Mare, Pinot Nore), identification specific each type.

Whole hempseed (WHS), fermented whole (FWHS), dehulled (DHS), and (FDHS) ethanol extracts were tested for their toxicity physiological benefits in relation to phenolic profiles. The safety of all samples was confirmed by the absence toxic effects on HepG2 cells. FWHS exhibited highest capacity inhibit lipase activity (70.80%) acetylcholinesterase (AChE) (78.94%) vitro. Similarly, cells, revealed greatest ability reduce accumulation reactive oxygen species (ROS). Fermented demonstrated superior antioxidant, neuroprotective anti-fat potential, counteracting ageing high glucose diet-induced C. elegans than unfermented. HPLC UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS2 identification presence diverse flavonoids, acids, lignanamides, phenylamides extracts. Among these polyphenols, quercetin, gallic acid, kaempferol excellent antioxidant whereas N-trans-feruloyl tyramine displayed anti-lipase potential. This study suggests that polyphenol-rich exhibits potent anti-obesity effects, could improve neural health.

Abstract This study aimed to exploit two invasive plant species develop a novel, multifunctional, bioactive wound dressing based on microporous cellulosic sponge (CS) from Gleditsia triacanthos pods and functionalizing them with Phytolacca americana fruit extract. The CS was functionalized, lyophilized, characterized by Attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, contact angle, water absorption, retention capacity. In addition, parameters were evaluated in temporal dynamics: controlled release of phenolic compounds antioxidant activities. hemolytic index, blood clotting kinetics, lactate dehydrogenase release, scratch assays proved their hemo- biocompatibility, as well ability promote cell proliferation migration promoting-activity inhibit microbial growth. Furthermore, the obtained spongious material exhibited an anti-inflammatory effect modulating macrophages’ secretion profile IL-6 IL-10. conclusion, G. could be used vehicle ensure principles pro-wound healing activities extracted plants. For the first time, antioxidant activity, sensory profile and fatty acid composition of an exceptional chestnut cultivar from Cimini Mountains in central Italy have been studied order to evaluate possibility adding value this product, both for its excellent taste as a source bioactive compounds. Its main characteristic is complex aroma. The chestnuts are characterized by presence almond (7.5) floral (7) aromas. high scores attributes flavour (8), crispness (8) sweetness worthy note. saturated fraction was low Vallerano chestnuts, with without pellicle (28% 27.8% respectively). On other hand, percentage unsaturated acids (from 72% 72.2%). lipid mainly composed linoleic, oleic palmitic acids. samples showed capacity values 376.99 μmol TE/g (ABST) 0.64 mmol Fe2+E/g (FRAP), making them nutritionally valuable. their quality organoleptic features, area Protected Denomination Origin "Vallerano Chestnut" could be comparable Marrone chestnuts.
