The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating compounds the frequency intensity extreme heat events due climate change. Yet, risk can be mitigated by green-blue-grey infrastructure (GBGI), such as parks, wetlands, engineered greening, which have potential effectively reduce summer air temperatures. Despite many reviews, evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial practical recommendations for implementation are unclear. This systematic literature review synthesizes base mitigation related co-benefits, identifies knowledge gaps, proposes their maximize benefits. After screening 27,486 papers, 202 were reviewed, based 51 types categorized under 10 main divisions. Certain (green walls, street trees) been well researched capabilities. However, several other received negligible (zoological garden, golf course, estuary) or minimal (private allotment) attention. most efficient was observed in botanical gardens (5.0 ± 3.5°C), wetlands (4.9 3.2°C), green walls (4.1 4.2°C), trees (3.8 3.1°C), vegetated balconies 2.7°C). Under changing conditions (2070-2100) with consideration RCP8.5, there is a shift subtypes, either within same zone (e.g., Dfa Dfb Cfb Cfa) across zones [continental warm-summer humid] BSk [dry, cold semi-arid] Cwa [temperate] Am [tropical]). These shifts may result lower efficiency current future. Given importance multiple services, it crucial balance functionality, performance, co-benefits when planning future GBGI. inventory assist policymakers planners prioritizing effective interventions overheating, filling research promoting community resilience.

Assessing urban service locations is a key issue within city planning, integral to promoting the well-being of citizens, and ensuring effective development. However, many current approaches emphasize spatial analysis focused solely on physical attributes, neglecting equally vital social dimensions essential for enhancing inhabitants’ comfort quality life. When factors are considered, they tend operate at smaller scales. This paper addresses this gap by prioritizing integrating alongside community level. By employing space syntax theory, study investigates suitability in Hajjah, Palestinian community, presenting novel approach literature. The research identifies good spots governmental facilities like health clinics fire stations using axial map analysis. It also suggests reallocation some schools. Additionally, it shows ways improve placement amenities, finding ideal park but suboptimal mosque placements. Commercial services exhibit areas enhancement including gas shops. insights from can offer policymakers planners create more efficient, equitable, accessible cities. incorporates behavior dynamics into analysis, inclusive planning.

Low-carbon procurement policies are growing rapidly at the local, state, and federal levels within US globally. Despite prevailing recognition of importance low-carbon procurement, research effort to investigate impact public on different project delivery aspects is notably limited. To this end, study investigates bidding dynamics construction industry. First, parametric distributions were fitted competitors' historic markup records. Second, two considered, lowest eligible bid performance discount rate. Third, environmental considerations approaches integrated into Friedman's Gates's models estimate future outcomes such as optimum value, probability winning against all competitors, expected profit. Finally, showcase practicality reliability proposed framework, it was applied a case from literature. Moreover, scenario analysis conducted considerations, varying global warming potential (GWP) threshold limit, outcomes. The findings provided valuable insights how integration coupled with traditional cost factor in evaluations, serves powerful incentive for contractors prioritize use materials. Also, highlighted an asymmetrical GWP limit approaches, revealing substantial shifts approach compared marginal variations rate approach. results showed that model consistently tends predict superior model. This contributes field by providing influenced effectiveness these improving profitability contractors. Overall, offers practical actionable strategies industry professionals can implement navigate complexities various scenarios.

Numerous studies have explored the cooling and energy-saving effects of vegetation reflective materials under extreme heat conditions in urban residential areas. However, few synergistic albedo, particularly low-rise, high-density Therefore, this study selected six typical areas Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, based on neighborhood characteristics. This investigated potential through development five simulation scenarios. These included original conditions, application highly materials, increased cover, removal a comprehensive strategy combining with enhanced vegetation. scenarios were analyzed using ENVI-met DesignBuilder to evaluate their impact microclimate building energy consumption. The results reveal following: (1) Cooling can lower air temperatures by 1.9 °C, saving 10.37% consumption during summer, demonstrating greater efficiency reducing temperature use. (2) Vegetation slightly reduces daytime but hampers nighttime dense low-rise areas, increasing demand. Shrubs or grass are preferable tall trees. (3) had stronger correlation reduction compared Hence, strategically placed controlling size maximized benefits. provides valuable insights for planners designers, offering guidance improving microclimates, use, achieving carbon neutrality goals.

Civil infrastructure is a key driver for growth, employment, and better quality of life, which leads to communities transitioning from the natural rural vegetation urban areas. Urbanization exacerbates worrying climate change trends due man-made activities increased anthropogenic heat production resulting population growth. This contributes numerous change-related challenges, one island (UHI) effect, affects human health welfare. While several states in US have experienced high number heat-related illness cases past years, minor research efforts were conducted determine areas that are subject highest risks associated with UHI. In relation that, this paper addresses knowledge gap by assessing vulnerability 95 state Tennessee exposed UHI effect considering demographic, geographic, climatic, factors. To end, followed an analytical approach based on integration unsupervised machine learning algorithms multiple criteria decision-making methods cluster or group 11 UHI-vulnerability-related The results showed clustering their vulnerabilities UHI-related considerations can reveal most critical geographical immediate need implement strategies reduce enhance resiliency. Greenery initiatives, such as green infrastructures (GIs), create sustainable and climate-resilient environments. However, they can also have unintended consequences, displacement gentrification in low-income areas. This paper proposes an integrated machine learning (ML) approach that combines both unsupervised supervised ML algorithms. First, 35 indicators contribute to were identified categorised into 7 categories: social, economic, demographic, housing, household, amenities, GIs. Second, data was collected for all census tracts New York City. Third, the susceptibility modelled 6 levels using k-means clustering analysis, which is model. Fourth, Technique Order of Preference by Similarity Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) used map their level. Finally, different algorithms trained tested predict susceptibility. The results showed artificial neural network (ANN) model most accurate classifying predicting with overall accuracy 96%. Moreover, outcomes Normal Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), proximity GIs, GIs frequency, total area important Ultimately, proposed allows practitioners researchers perform micro-level (i.e. on census-tracts level) predictions inferences about more focused targeted mitigation actions be designed implemented affected communities, thus promoting environmental justice.
