Terpenoids constitute one of the largest and most diverse groups within class secondary metabolites, comprising over 80,000 compounds. They not only exhibit important functions in plant physiology but also have commercial potential biotechnological, pharmaceutical, agricultural sectors due to their promising properties, including various bioactivities against pathogens, inflammations, cancer. In this work, we therefore aimed implement sesquiterpenoid pathway leading β-caryophyllene heterologous host Rhodobacter capsulatus achieved a maximum production 139 ± 31 mg L−1 culture. As sesquiterpene offers beneficial anti-phytopathogenic activities, evaluated bioactivity its oxygenated derivative oxide different phytopathogenic fungi. Here, both compounds significantly inhibited growth Sclerotinia sclerotiorum Fusarium oxysporum by up 40%, while Alternaria brassicicola was slightly affected, Phoma lingam Rhizoctonia solani were unaffected. At same time, showed low inhibitory profile for variety growth-promoting bacteria at suitable compound concentrations. Our observations thus give first indication that are natural agents, which might be applicable management certain pathogenic fungi crop production.

Fungal pathogens, among other stressors, negatively impact the productivity and population size of honey bees, one our most important pollinators (1, 2), in particular their brood (larvae pupae) (3, 4). Understanding factors that influence disease incidence prevalence may help us improve colony health productivity. Here, we examined capacity a bee-associated bacterium, Bombella apis, to suppress growth fungal pathogens ultimately protect bee from infection. Our results showed strains B. apis inhibit two insect Beauveria bassiana Aspergillus flavus, vitro. This phenotype was recapitulated vivo; broods supplemented with were significantly less likely be infected by A. flavus. Additionally, presence reduced sporulation flavus few bees infected. Analyses biosynthetic gene clusters across suggest antifungal candidates, including type 1 polyketide, terpene, aryl polyene. Secreted metabolites alone sufficient growth, supporting hypothesis inhibition is mediated an metabolite. Together, these data can infections via secretion IMPORTANCE Fungi play critical roles host microbiomes (5-7), yet bacterial-fungal interactions are understudied. For insects, fungi leading cause (5, 8). In particular, populations European (Apis mellifera), agriculturally economically species, have declined part due pathogens. The far-reaching consequences, endangering species threatening food security 2, 9). research highlights how bacterial symbiont protects Further mechanistic work could lead development new treatments.

Plants rely on their root microbiome as the first line of defense against soil-borne fungal pathogens. The abundance and activities beneficial microbial taxa at time prior to during infection are key protective success. If how invading pathogens can disrupt assembly gene expression is still largely unknown. Here, we investigated impact pathogen Fusarium oxysporum (fox) rhizosphere endosphere microbiomes a fox-susceptible fox-resistant common bean cultivar.Integration 16S-amplicon, shotgun metagenome well metatranscriptome sequencing with community ecology analysis showed that fox infections significantly changed composition in cultivar-dependent manner. More specifically, led increased diversity, network complexity, higher proportion genera Flavobacterium, Bacillus, Dyadobacter cultivar compared cultivar. In endosphere, also changes assembly, Sinorhizobium Ensifer Metagenome analyses further revealed enrichment terpene biosynthesis genes potential role suppression upon invasion.Collectively, these results specific bacterial activation putative disease-suppressive functions under siege.

Abstract Due to their various applications, terpenes and terpenoids are secondary metabolites of industrial interest. These compounds can be found in a wide variety organisms from virtually all biological kingdoms. However, it has been identified that factors the production process, such as place time harvest, pretreatments, extraction, purification, generate differences profile obtained organisms. The first factor influences extraction is drying since an inappropriate choice method lead loss interest or appearance others arise due decomposition original molecules. Similarly, Soxhlet most used recovery its high efficiency. unconventional methods have proven effective alternatives for terpenoid recovery, particularly use microwave high-pressure well solvents, achieving efficiencies equal greater than shorter times. This review will address observed main cause them, comparison advantages disadvantages methodologies drying, separation these compounds.
