This study offers a thorough examination of South Africa's National Development Plan (NDP), emphasising its dedication to advancing gender equality in higher education. Notwithstanding constitutional assurances equality, considerable discrepancies endure African education institutions (HEIs), with women encountering institutional obstacles that impede their entry and achievement. The research utilises systematic review approach, consolidating current academic literature discern the problems opportunities related NDP's objectives. Critical findings indicate structural obstacles, including socio-cultural views financial limitations, substantially hinder women's engagement under-representation leadership positions within fosters cycle inequity, as cultural beliefs regulations frequently neglect distinct encountered by female students. investigation underscores necessity employing an intersectional approach comprehend intricacies inequality emphasises importance executing targeted interventions unified national policies cultivate inclusive educational environment empowers corresponds overarching objectives sustainable development. By resolving these difficulties, Africa can advance towards genuine system, thereby fostering development social progress.

COVID-19 was a pandemic that hit the global world in late 2019, and by 2020 international sectors were grounded with lockdowns. The lockdowns restricted human movement gatherings to control fast-rising waves of deadly virus across globe. education system significantly impacted as schools shut down. Thus, academic activities conventionally face-to-face African learning institutions suspended for months before teaching transited online, amidst many challenges, prospects opportunities. Hence, this systematic literature review investigates multifaceted impact on educational transformation within higher education, especially rural universities South context. synthesises peer-reviewed articles, reports, studies published from early present, analysing challenges face, innovative strategies employed, potential long-term implications. findings highlight rapid shift online learning, equity inclusivity concerns, pedagogical innovations, assessment modifications, faculty development initiatives, mental health considerations. underscores pandemic's role accelerating change promoting adoption technology-enhanced while also emphasising importance addressing digital disparities ensuring equity.

In the post-pandemic era, ongoing discourses are centered around finding innovative ways to sustain teaching and learning as well reversing COVID-19-induced loss, especially in critical areas, such reading English First Additional Language (FAL). As a contribution these discourses, current study explored how teachers prepared rural FAL learners for self-directed mitigate loss ‘new normal’. The followed qualitative approach adopted phenomenology research design, while Capability Approach was used theoretical framing. Three of one primary school were conveniently selected participate semi-structured focus-group interviews. A thematic analysis revealed that use by apprising their active role FAL, identifying learners’ weaknesses, strengthening home-school connection, encouraging collaboration problem-solving. These findings imply could be useful strategy mitigating improving skills schools.
