The death of exams? Grade inflation and student satisfaction when coursework replaces exams

A
mid-sized
advanced
undergraduate
economics
module
has
undergone
an
assessment
reform,
where
a
typical
60%
final
exam
was
replaced
by
four
scaffolded
coursework
assignments,
each
carrying
15%
weight
in
the
grade.
As
result,
student
satisfaction
with
and
feedback
went
up
at
expense
of
higher
staff
workload.
In
addition,
reform
raised
grades
over
above
increase
typically
associated
improvement
learning
engagement,
effectively
triggering
grade
inflation.
The
paper
identifies
assignment

inflated
grades.

then
proceeds

purpose
is
to
formulate
agenda

maintain
high
satisfaction,

study
examines
a
private
educational

been

example,

TNE
(Trans-National
Education)
model
is
increasingly
critical
programmes
offered
between
destinations
aligned
well.To
meet
some
outcomes
create
collaborative
value
chain,
there
must
be
more
interaction
destination
campuses.Programmes
schedules
project
now
aligned;
student
projects
can
cross-destination
interacting
one
another
through
skype
conference
calls
discuss
presentation,

by
teachers
