maltreatment
has
received
substantial
academic
attention.
However,
little
remains
known
about
the
intersection
of
different
types
child
and
their
association
with
young
people's
use
violence
in
home.

intergenerational
transmission

Abstract
While
there
is
much
research
on
the
topic
of
child
maltreatment
more
broadly
in
Australia,
a
nuanced
understanding
intergenerational
needed
to
improve
our
responses.
Little
work
has
considered
all
four
patterns
maltreatment:
cycle
maintainers
(maltreated
parents
with
maltreated
children),
breakers
non‐maltreated
initiators
(non‐maltreated
children)
and
comparison
group
children).
We
use
this
terminology
maintain
consistency
international
literature,
but
acknowledge
that
these
terms
minimise
complexity
inherent
contact
protection
systems.
