Objective To test the association between preexisting obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and subsequent cancer in a large long‐term cohort of veteran patients. Study Design Retrospective matched study. Setting The Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Subjects Methods All patients diagnosed with OSA 1993 2013 by International Classification Diseases, Ninth Revision ( ICD‐9 ) codes any facility without an diagnosis, to age index year. Cancer diagnoses were identified for time period at least 2 years after diagnosis or date. We tested using multivariate Cox regression since entry as axis, adjusting potential confounders. Results included 1,377,285 (726,008 651,277 diagnosis) mean 55 years, predominantly male (94%), minority obese (32%), median follow‐up 7.4 (range, 2.0‐25.2). proportion was higher those vs (8.3% 3.6%; difference 4.8%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.7%‐4.8%; P <. 001). After age, sex, year entry, smoking status, alcohol use, obesity, comorbidity, hazard incident nearly double (hazard ratio, 1.97; CI, 1.94‐2.00; Conclusion Preexisting strongly associated this cohort, independent several known risk factors. These findings suggest that may be strong, factor development.

Description: In September 2019, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Defense (DoD) approved a new joint clinical practice guideline for assessing managing patients with chronic insomnia disorder obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This is intended to give health care teams framework by which screen, evaluate, treat, manage individual needs preferences VA DoD either these conditions. Methods: October 2017, VA/DoD Evidence-Based Practice Work Group initiated development effort that included stakeholders conformed Institute Medicine's tenets trustworthy guidelines. The panel developed key questions, systematically searched evaluated literature, created three 1-page algorithms, advanced 41 recommendations using GRADE (Grading Recommendations Assessment, Development Evaluation) system. Recommendations: synopsis summarizes in 3 areas: diagnosis assessment OSA disorder, treatment management OSA, disorder. Three algorithms are also included.

Abstract Sleep problems are considered a core symptom of depression. However, there is little information about the comorbidity sleep and depression in low- middle-income countries (LMICs), whether with confer additional risk for decrements health compared to alone. This study thus examined association between associated an increased poorer 46 LMICs. Cross-sectional, community-based data from 237 023 adults aged ≥18 years World Health Survey (WHS) 2002–2004 were analyzed. Information on (severe/extreme) International Classification Diseases 10th Revision depression/depression subtypes was collected. Multivariable logistic (binary multinomial) linear regression analyses performed. subsyndromal (odds ratio [OR]: 2.23, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.84–2.70), brief depressive episode (OR = 2.48, CI 2.09–2.95) 3.61, 3.24–4.03). Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are limited due to the underdiagnosis of OSA, leading misclassification which consequently reduces statistical power. We performed a GWAS OSA in Million Veteran Program (MVP) U.S. Department Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system, where prevalence is close its true population prevalence.

The home is an ideal setting for long-term sleep monitoring. This review explores a range of home-based monitoring technologies, including smartphone apps, smartwatches, and smart mattresses, to assess their accuracy, usability, limitations, how well they integrate with existing healthcare systems. evaluates 21 16 nine mattresses through systematic data collection from academic literature, manufacturer specifications, independent studies. Devices were assessed based on sleep-tracking capabilities, physiological collection, movement detection, environmental sensing, AI-driven analytics, integration potential. Wearables provide the best balance affordability, making them most suitable general users athletes. Smartphone apps are cost-effective but offer lower more appropriate casual tracking rather than clinical applications. Smart while providing passive comfortable tracking, costlier have limited validation. offers essential insights selecting technology. Future developments should focus multi-sensor fusion, AI transparency, energy efficiency, improved validation enhance reliability applicability. As these technologies evolve, has potential bridge gap between consumer-grade diagnostics, personalized health accessible actionable.
