In the context of San Gavain hydroelectric power station diversion tunnel project in Peru, this paper studies surrounding rock instability mechanism using a combination numerical simulation methods and model test presents enclosing criterion based on catastrophe model. The study demonstrates that distribution stress displacement during excavation is more affected by presence laminated joints; thinner layer thickness, prominent influence laminations, higher deformation rock.
