Spatial locations can be encoded and maintained in working memory using different representations strategies. Fine-grained provide detailed stimulus information, but are cognitively demanding prone to inexactness. The uncertainty fine-grained compensated by the use of coarse, robust categorical representations. In this study, we employed an individual differences approach identify brain activity correlates spatial memory. We combined data from six fMRI studies, resulting a sample 155 (77 women, 25 ± 5 years) healthy participants performing task. Our results showed that were associated with distinct patterns activity. Higher precision was related greater engagement attentional control systems throughout task trial, stronger deactivation default network at time encoding. contrast, lower during encoding higher frontoparietal activation maintenance. These may indicate need for resources protection against interference compared

Disruption of conscious access contributes to the advent psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia but could also explain lack insight other psychiatric disorders. In this study, we explored how and related disruption consciousness. We consciousness patients with schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) good vs. poor matched controls. Participants underwent clinical assessments performed a visual masking task allowing us measure individual threshold. used principal component analysis reduce symptom dimensionality measures symptomatology. found that dimensions be well summarized by restricted set components which correlated extent disruption. More specifically, positive were associated impaired whereas level delineated two subtypes OCD patients, those who had impairments similar resemble healthy Our study provides new insights about disorders, showing it relates OCD. OCD, revealed distinct subgroup sharing neuropathological features schizophrenia. findings refine mapping between cognition, paving way for better treatment selection.
