Objective Emotional experience is argued to contribute the initiation and maintenance of nonsuicidal self‐injury (NSSI). We investigated whether individuals with/without a history NSSI differed in their dispositional negative positive emotion, as well state responses negatively positively valenced movie clips. Method Undergraduates ( n = 214, M age 21.33, 73.8% female, 35.5% reporting NSSI) completed measures emotional experience. Participants also viewed sad amusing clip provided sadness/amusement ratings at seven time‐points. Results Relative participants with no self‐injury, indicated more reactivity, intensity, perseveration emotion; however, differences were negated after adjusting for mental illness. Unexpectedly, responded less intensely clip, although they demonstrated sadness over time. emotion and, response film, reported amusement all Conclusions Considering different dimensions may enhance understanding NSSI. Future research should disentangle which are unique shared illness generally.

In so doing, we provide a comprehensive theoretical review organization psychologically informed problems, one that encompasses wide-range applies diverse problem areas. Loss of pleasure or interest in activities (i.e., anhedonia) is a risk factor for suicidality, treatment nonresponse, and relapse. Extant treatments that focus on reducing negative affect have limited effects upon positive (a core feature anhedonia). We investigated whether novel intervention aimed at increasing reward sensitivity was more efficacious than cognitive-behavior threat sensitivity, individuals with clinically severe symptoms depression anxiety, functional impairment. The Treatment Affective Dimensions trial offered 2-site randomized study outpatient centers Los Angeles Dallas. Ninety-six patients were to 15 weekly, individual sessions Positive Affect (PAT) Negative (NAT). The primary outcome improvement (Positive Schedule-Positive) from pretreatment 6-month follow-up (6MFU). Secondary outcomes improvements Schedule-Negative), suicidal ideation, (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales).PAT resulted greater affect, p = .009, d .52, higher 6MFU, .002, .67, NAT. Participants PAT also reported lower .033, depression, .035, .34, < .018, .30, stress, .006, .43 6MFU. Finally, probability ideation 6MFU NAT (1.7% vs. 12.0%), .001.Compared NAT, demonstrated better (at 6MFU) symptomatic levels these outcomes. Although positive psychology interventions (PPIs) show beneficial effects on mental health in non-clinical populations, the current literature is inconclusive regarding its effectiveness clinical settings. We aimed to examine of PPIs well-being (primary outcome), depression, anxiety, and stress (secondary outcomes) samples with psychiatric or somatic disorders. A systematic review meta-analysis was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus were searched for controlled studies between Jan 1, 1998 May 31, 2017. Methodological quality each study rated. used Hedges’ adjusted g calculate effect sizes pooled results using random-effect models. Thirty included, representing 1864 patients At post-intervention, showed significant, small (Hedges’ = 0.24) depression (g 0.23) compared control conditions when omitting outliers. Significant moderate improvements observed anxiety 0.36). Effect not significant. Follow-up (8–12 weeks), available, yielded similar sizes. Quality low moderate. These findings indicate that PPIs, wherein focus eliciting feelings, cognitions behaviors, only have potential improve well-being, but can also reduce distress populations Given growing interest settings, more high research warranted as determine samples. Self-efficacy expectations are associated with improvements in problematic outcomes widely considered clinically significant (ie, emotional distress, fatigue, and pain), related to positive health behaviors, as a type of personal agency, inherently valuable. expectancies, estimates confidence execute important that changes self-efficacy positively future behaviors promote well-being. The current meta-analysis investigated the impact psychological interventions on for variety among cancer patients.Ovid Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web Science were searched specific search terms identifying randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focused psychologically based interventions. Included studies had (a) an adult sample, (b) expectation measure (c) RCT design. Standard screening reliability procedures used selecting coding studies. Coding included theoretically informed moderator variables.Across 79 RCTs, 223 effect sizes, 8678 participants, weighted average was estimated g = 0.274 (P < .001). Consistent theory, in-person intervention delivery (g 0.329) significantly greater than all other formats 0.154, P .023; eg, audiovisual, print, telephone, Web/internet).The results establish comparable size commonly reported (distress, pain). From the vulnerability perspective, we often ask question "why someone suffers from depression?" Despite outstanding achievements along this line, still face high occurrence or recurrence and unsatisfied therapeutic efficacy of depression, suggesting that solely focusing on perspective is insufficient to prevent cure depression. Importantly, although experiencing same adversity, most people do not suffer depression but manifest certain resilience, which could be used however, systematic review lack. Here, propose concept "resilience depression" emphasize resilient diathesis against by asking exempted Research evidence resilience has been reviewed systematically: positive cognitive style (clear purpose in life, hopefulness, et al.), emotion (emotional stability, adaptive behavior (extraversion, internal self-control, strong social interaction (gratitude love, neural foundation (dopamine circuit, al.). Inspired these evidence, "psychological vaccination" achieved well-known real-world natural-stress vaccination (mild, controllable, stress, with help parents leaders) newly developed "clinical (positive activity intervention for current preventive therapy remitted both aim enhance psychological through events training. Potential circuit was further discussed. This calls directing attention offers a new thinking prevention
