The current study aimed to investigate the effects of group reminiscence therapy on cognitive function, depression, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and activities daily living in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer disease (AD). A single-blind randomized parallel-design controlled trial was conducted between May 1, 2017, April 30, 2018. Ninety AD recruited from Beijing Geriatric Hospital were randomly allocated into intervention (n = 45) control groups 45). In group, group-based performed two 30- 45-minute sessions weekly for 12 weeks. Control participants received only conventional drug treatments routine care. disease–related symptoms evaluated using Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive section, Cornell Scale Depression Dementia (CSDD), Neuropsychiatric Inventory, Barthel Index. Four time points set data collection: baseline (before treatment), 4 weeks (during (end 24 (12 posttreatment). χ 2 Tests, independent t tests, repeated-measures analysis variance, Bonferroni tests used analysis. Significant improvements depressive found compared ( P < .05). Mean CSDD scores improved at all 3 showed greatest effect 2.076, .041) follow-up 3.834, .000) controls. Group effective improving beneficial treating AD.

Abstract Objective To describe the comparative efficacy of drug and non-drug interventions for reducing symptoms depression in people with dementia who experience as a neuropsychiatric symptom or have diagnosis major depressive disorder. Design Systematic review meta-analysis. Data sources Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PsycINFO, grey literature between inception 15 October 2020. Eligibility criteria study selection Randomised trials comparing usual care any other intervention targeting dementia. Main outcome measures Pairs reviewers screened studies, abstracted aggregate level data, appraised risk bias tool, which facilitated derivation standardised mean differences back transformed (on Cornell scale dementia) from bayesian random effects network meta-analyses pairwise meta-analyses. Results Of 22 138 citations screened, 256 studies (28 483 were included. Missing data posed greatest to findings. In meta-analysis including without disorder experiencing (213 studies; 25 177 dementia; variance 0.23), seven associated greater reduction compared care: cognitive stimulation (mean difference −2.93, 95% credible interval −4.35 −1.52), combined cholinesterase inhibitor (−11.39, −18.38 −3.93), massage touch therapy (−9.03, −12.28 −5.88), multidisciplinary (−1.98, −3.80 −0.16), occupational (−2.59, −4.70 −0.40), exercise social interaction (−12.37, −19.01 −5.36), reminiscence (−2.30, −3.68 −0.93). Except therapy, inhibitor, interaction, more efficacious than some interventions, no statistically significant was found Clinical methodological heterogeneity precluded specifically (22 1829 patients). Abstract The literature on the use of reminiscence therapy is vast in patients with dementia, but there minimal evidence older adults Alzheimer's disease. current review seeks to develop a unifying way administer that will be effective for used PRISMA guidelines search and data extraction. Results showed effectiveness disease, area cognition, depression, activities daily living, quality life. Additionally, effective, it must conducted regularly small group an average 45 min 8‐ 12‐week duration. Patients mild‐to‐moderate disease are most likely benefit photographs, videos, music associated their past experiences. This highlights innovative ways render individuals including technology‐aided applications.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other forms of dementia are among the most common causes disability in elderly. Dementia is often accompanied by depression, but specific diagnostic criteria treatment approaches still lacking. This study aimed to gather expert opinions on depressed patient management reduce heterogeneity everyday practice. Methods: Prospective, multicenter, 2-round Modified Delphi survey with 53 questions regarding risk factors (11), signs symptoms (7), diagnosis (8), (27) depression dementia, a particular focus AD. The questionnaire was completed panel 37 physicians neurodegenerative diseases (19 neurologists, 17 psychiatrists, 1 geriatrician). Results: Consensus achieved 40 (75.5%) items: agreement 33 (62.3%) disagreement 7 (13.2%) them. Among relevant findings, elderly considered an early sign (prodromal) and/or factor, so routine cognitive check-ups patients should be adopted, aided clinical scales information from relatives. Careful interpretation neuropsychological assessment must carried out as it can undermine outcomes. As agreed, AD characterized somatic differentiated apathy presence sadness, depressive thoughts early-morning awakening. In later-phases, would include sleep-wake cycle reversal, aggressive behavior, agitation. Regardless stage accelerate its course, whereas antidepressants have opposite effect. Those that improve function dual or multimodal mode action were preferred: Duloxetine, venlafaxine/desvenlafaxine, vortioxetine, tianeptine, mirtazapine. Although may less effective than cognitively healthy patients, neither dosage nor duration differ. Anti-dementia cholinesterase inhibitors synergistic effect antidepressants. Exercise psychological interventions not applied alone before any pharmacological treatment, yet they do play part improving demented patients. Conclusions: sheds light several unresolved challenges Further studies recommendations for this comorbid population needed.

Results In total, 36 studies systematically reviewed. Intervention types reminiscence, music, therapies, multisensory stimulation. Thirty included meta-analysis. showed a moderate size overall intervention, small one music therapy, reminiscence therapy BPSD function. Discussion Implications Generally speaking, immediate effects reducing improving function, although significance each outcome differed type. Thus, health providers should consider as vital element care.

Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) present cognitive function deterioration, neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS)-especially depression-and low quality of life (QoL). Management AD remains difficult, especially in the elderly. Reminiscence therapy (RT) is a well-known rehabilitation intervention that can be adopted nursing and residential care homes to restore autobiographical memory, ameliorate NPS, improve QoL people dementia. However, evidence-based efficacy RT for elderly patients determined. Here, we synthesized findings randomized controlled trials (RCTs) exploring effects on cognition, depression, AD, according most recent PRISMA statement. We searched RCTs PubMed, Web Science, Cochrane Central Register Controlled Trials, trial registries (i.e., clinicaltrials.gov International Clinical Trials Registry Platform World Health Organization). Two review authors extracted data interest, measures as outcomes.A total five articles were included final analysis. Findings globally showed RT, both administered individual or group sessions at least once week 30-35 min over period 12 weeks, effective supporting global ameliorating improving specific aspects AD.RT has potential routine non-pharmacological thanks its wider terms vitality emotional status promotion, positive implications patient's daily life. Despite such evidences, caution should used findings' generalizability relation paucity existing long-term follow-up.
