Metabolomics
is
now
considered
a
wide-ranging,
sensitive
and
practical
approach
to
acquire
useful
information
on
the
composition
of
metabolite
pool
present
in
any
organism,
including
plants.
Investigating
metabolomic
regulation
plants
essential
understand
their
adaptation,
acclimation
defense
responses
environmental
stresses
through
production
numerous
metabolites.
Moreover,
metabolomics
can
be
easily
applied
for
phenotyping
plants;
thus,
it
has
great
potential
used
genome
editing
programs
develop
superior
next-generation
crops.
This
review
describes
recent
analytical
tools
techniques
available
study
metabolome,
along
with
significance
sample
preparation
using
targeted
non-targeted
methods.
Advanced
tools,
like
gas
chromatography-mass
spectrometry
(GC-MS),
liquid
chromatography
mass-spectroscopy
(LC-MS),
capillary
electrophoresis-mass
(CE-MS),

ion
cyclotron
resonance-mass
(FTICR-MS)
matrix-assisted
laser
desorption/ionization

mobility

nuclear
magnetic
resonance
(NMR)
have

metabolic
profiling

we
provide

overview
bioinformatics
plant
metabolome
database
that
utilized
advance
our
knowledge
biology.

insights
into
many
biological
and

phenomena.
However,
the
quality
utility
of
these

For

will
incorrect.

salivary
metabolomics.
Current
applications
have
largely
focused
on
diagnostic
biomarker
discovery
value
literature

explored.

a
small,
albeit
promising,
concerning
use
in
monitoring
athletic
performance.
Functional
roles
metabolites
remain
unexplored.
Areas
emerging
include
role
oral
host–microbiome
interactions
shaping
metabolite
profile

physiology,

perception.
Discussion
future
research
directions

need
to
begin
acquiring
