In simulations, pre-service teachers need sophisticated feedback to develop complex skills such as diagnostic reasoning. an experimental study with N = 178 about simulated pupils learning difficulties, we investigated the effects of automatic adaptive feedback, which is based on artificial neural networks, teachers' Diagnostic reasoning was operationalised accuracy and quality justifications. We compared static provided in form expert solution. Further, experimentally manipulated whether learners worked individually or dyads computer lab-based simulations. Results show that facilitates justifications written assignments, but not their accuracy. even had detrimental process dyads. Automatic simulations offers scalable, elaborate, process-oriented real-time high numbers students higher education.

Abstract Assessing students’ learning processes and products is considered a core requirement of effective teaching. As such, it an object research in several disciplines areas. To structure the various corresponding perspectives provide broader, yet still systematic view field, we propose overarching framework that allows for systematizing foci interest, goals, methodologies, theoretical premises as four integral aspects conducting this area. We demonstrate benefits by using tool to analyze systematize previous from different perspectives. Based on framework, discuss strengths limitations existing studies and, particular, highlight are rarely explicitly addressed but become more obvious framework. In addition, directions future drawing connections within between Our analyses illustrate how can foundation synthesis inform studies.

Abstract The acquisition of diagnostic competences is an essential goal teacher education. Thus, evidence on how learning environments facilitate pre-service teachers’ corresponding important. In education, approximations practice (such as simulations) are discussed being that can support learners in activating acquired knowledge authentic situations. Simulated interviews recommended to foster competences. conceptualization highlights the importance cognitive and motivational characteristics. Motivational theories predict activation situations may be influenced by characteristics such individual interest. Although constitute increasing research focus, interact when shaping process accuracy remains open question. To address this question, we report data from 126 simulated one-on-one conducted 63 secondary school mathematics teachers (students assistants), studying combined effects interest professional accuracy. addition main effect content knowledge, interaction indicate participants’ plays role a “door-opener” for during simulation-based learning. results highlight both, This implies should designed arouse their or less interested relevant knowledge.

Simulation-based learning is being increasingly implemented across different domains of higher education to facilitate essential skills and competences (e.g. diagnostic skills, problem-solving, etc.). However, the lack research that assesses compares simulations used in contexts (e.g., from design perspective) makes it challenging effectively transfer good practices or establish guidelines for effective domains. This study suggests some initial steps address this issue by investigating relations between learners' experience simulation-based environments accuracy several types simulations, with goal facilitating cross-domain generalizability. The findings demonstrate ratings are correlated objective performance measures, can be meaningful comparisons Measures perceived extraneous cognitive load were found specific simulation situation, while involvement authenticity not. Further, negative correlation was more pronounced interaction-based simulations. These results provide supporting evidence theoretical models highlight connection simulated their performance. Overall, contributes understanding relationship accuracy, paving way dissemination best within education.

Abstract Background Making accurate diagnoses in teams requires complex collaborative diagnostic reasoning skills, which require extensive training. In this study, we investigated broad content-independent behavioral indicators of accuracy and checked whether how quickly could be predicted from these when they were displayed a simulation. Methods A total 73 medical students 25 physicians asked to diagnose patient cases training simulation with the help an agent-based radiologist. Log files automatically coded for activities (CDAs; i.e., evidence generation, sharing eliciting hypotheses, drawing conclusions). These codes transformed into bigrams that contained information about time spent on transitions between CDAs. Support vector machines linear kernels, random forests, gradient boosting trained classify diagnostician provide correct diagnosis basis Results All algorithms performed well predicting testing phases. Yet, forest was selected as final model because its better performance (kappa = .40) phase. The success higher precision than it failure (sensitivity .90; specificity .46). reliable prediction possible after two thirds median task. Most important certain individual activities, such generation (typical diagnoses), inaccurate diagnoses). Conclusions This study advances understanding differences processes successful unsuccessful diagnosticians. Taking generate at beginning task can build initial adequate representation case prestructures subsequent is crucial making diagnoses. used adaptive process-based feedback learners are right track. Abstract In recent years, a new branch of teacher competence research has emerged in which is measured close to teaching performance. Such so-called performance assessment approaches are gaining increasing attention, but the field still fragmented. Despite increasing focus on the importance of self–regulated learning for undergraduate students in universities recent years, very little is known about its specific features developing countries, general, and Ethiopia, particular. This study examined relationships self-regulated strategies (SRLSs) with perceived further assessed within SRLS components Ethiopian public universities. For this, authors adopted Pintrich’s self-regulation theory as a guiding framework used structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis.
