Dunaliella salina is a green microalga known for its high carotene content, especially in β-carotene isomers, which are very interesting compounds due to their biological activity. The neuroprotective effect of has been related the potential prevention multifactorial neurological pathologies. use extraction processes extract carotenoids present D. generated great advance production carotenoid-enriched extracts. In this work, supercritical fluid at ultra-high pressure (UHP-SFE) semi-pilot scale evaluated first time isomers from salina. was determined by an experimental design, and results showed that both carotenoid activity obtained extracts were maximum 84.9 MPa. Therefore, UHP-SFE presented as more selective process with higher generate enriched increased bioactivity than SFE procedures under moderate conditions. Moreover, it demonstrated had greener recovery bioactive industrial scaling-up current need. sense, shown automatic safer analytical scale. Additionally, UHP allowed reducing half initial obtaining yields. provides products greater performance. work becomes starting point achieving throughput

Tons of orange by-products (OBPs) are generated during industrial processing. Currently, OBPs management is challenging due to their high amounts, physico-chemical characteristics (high water content, low pH, presence essential oils) and seasonal nature the production. Whereas agro-industrial can be highly valuable abundant sources bioactive compounds, which add value novel bakery products (e.g. bread, biscuits, cakes). This review covers most recent research issues linked use in products, with a focus on available stabilization methods main challenges designing improved products. The application nutritional quality offering interesting sustainability benefits but also critical challenges. valorization may open new routes for development natural ingredients food industry lower processing waste.

The extraction of bioactive compounds from marine natural products has gained increasing attention due to their diverse applications, such as in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. Yet, low yields toxicity associated with common solvents are a major bottleneck. Deep eutectic (DESs) deep (NADESs) have emerged promising green alternatives conventional organic solvents, offering advantages biodegradability, greater environmental economic sustainability, toxicity, enhanced selectivity. This review provides comprehensive analysis the principles, physicochemical properties, applications DESs/NADESs obtain organisms. Among most recent works, it is possible verify success NADESs extract carrageenan seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii; pigments Palmaria palmata; polyphenols proteins different brown seaweeds. also shown high potential other valuable by-products, chitin crabs shrimp shells, lipids fish species protein rich extracts tilapia viscera. challenges for use at industrial scale discussed, cases revealed, highlighting game changers extracting organisms driving development innovative biotechnological products.

This study aimed to investigate the content of oxygen heterocyclic compounds, especially coumarin and furocoumarins, in cosmetics products scented with Citrus essential oils. A minor component non-volatile fraction essences is composed by commonly known as coumarins, polymethoxyflavones. These molecules show several biological effects on human health. On other hand, has potential induce skin sensitization furocoumarins phototoxic activity. For this reason, regulation opinions have been issued concerning maximum amount these compounds cosmetics. Given regulatory framework, an analytical workflow for extraction quantification OHCs from necessary. research aims address challenge exploring, first time, a deep eutectic solvent eco-friendly alternative microwave-assisted Citrus-scented creams. made chloride urea, at molar ratio 1:2, 20 % water weight was selected. Due complexity sample, SPE clean-up mandatory obtain extract devoid interferents. Finally, HPLC-PDA method employed allowing simultaneous separation 35 less than ten minutes. The here proposed developed, optimized validated demonstrating potentials solvents microwaves field.
