Dunaliella salina is a green microalga known for its high carotene content, especially in β-carotene isomers, which are very interesting compounds due to their biological activity. The neuroprotective effect of has been related the potential prevention multifactorial neurological pathologies. use extraction processes extract carotenoids present D. generated great advance production carotenoid-enriched extracts. In this work, supercritical fluid at ultra-high pressure (UHP-SFE) semi-pilot scale evaluated first time isomers from salina. was determined by an experimental design, and results showed that both carotenoid activity obtained extracts were maximum 84.9 MPa. Therefore, UHP-SFE presented as more selective process with higher generate enriched increased bioactivity than SFE procedures under moderate conditions. Moreover, it demonstrated had greener recovery bioactive industrial scaling-up current need. sense, shown automatic safer analytical scale. Additionally, UHP allowed reducing half initial obtaining yields. provides products greater performance. work becomes starting point achieving throughput

Tons of orange by-products (OBPs) are generated during industrial processing. Currently, OBPs management is challenging due to their high amounts, physico-chemical characteristics (high water content, low pH, presence essential oils) and seasonal nature the production. Whereas agro-industrial can be highly valuable abundant sources bioactive compounds, which add value novel bakery products (e.g. bread, biscuits, cakes). This review covers most recent research issues linked use in products, with a focus on available stabilization methods main challenges designing improved products. The application nutritional quality offering interesting sustainability benefits but also critical challenges. valorization may open new routes for development natural ingredients food industry lower processing waste.
