Child maltreatment can adversely affect brain development, leading to vulnerabilities in structure and function various psychiatric disorders. Among the types of child maltreatment, neglect has highest incidence rate (76.0%); however, data on its sole adverse influence remain limited. This case-control magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study identified changes gray matter that distinguish neglected children with no other type (Neglect group, n = 23) from typically developing (TD 140), investigated association between these structural functional differences specific psychosocial phenotypes observed children. Our results showed Neglect group had a larger right left anterior cingulate cortex (R/L.ACC) smaller angular gyrus (L.AG) volume. The R/L.ACC was associated hyperactivity inattention. Resting-state analysis increased connectivity (FC) supramarginal (L.SMG) salience network (SN) middle frontal (R.MFG) simultaneously decrease FC L.ACC for same seed. R.MFG difficulty peer problems depressive symptoms; mediating effect evident symptoms. These suggest atypicality indirectly contributes disturbed FCs within SN, thereby exacerbating symptoms In conclusion, exposure childhood may lead maladaptive particularly neural

Suicide continues to be a significant public health issue globally, claiming over 700,000 lives annually. It is, therefore, important assess the suicide risk properly and provide intervention in timely fashion. While heritability of suicidal behavior is around 50%, it does not explain factors involved causality. Recent evidence suggests that gene x environment interaction plays vital role behavior. In this paper, we critically evaluate association between adolescent epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, histone modification, non-coding RNAs, as well epigenetic-based treatment options. was noted prevalence adolescents varied by age sex presence psychiatric disorders. Childhood adversity closely associated with Studies show alterations modifications may increase independent mental illnesses. Because are reversible, environmental enrichment or use pharmacological agents can target specific modulation able reduce population.

Childhood maltreatment (CM) is a major risk factor for the development of depressive disorder (MDD). To gain more knowledge on how adverse childhood experiences influence brain architecture, we studied functional connectivity (FC) alterations neural networks depressed patients with, or without history CM. Depressed with severe (n = 18), MDD 19), and matched healthy controls 20) were examined resting state MRI. History was assessed 28-item Trauma Questionnaire. Intra- inter-network FC evaluated using FMRIB Software Library CONN toolbox. We found numerous intra- between maltreated non-maltreated patients. Intra-network differences in default mode, visual auditory networks, cerebellum. Network modelling revealed several connecting mode network executive control, salience cerebellar networks. Increased sensory-motor visual, cerebellar, Relatively small sample size, cross-sectional design, retrospective self-report questionnaire to assess experiences. Our findings confirm that severely display strengths, not only their fronto-limbic circuits, but also sensory-motor, auditory, These may explain individuals typically altered perception are prone develop neurological symptom (conversion disorder) adulthood.

Data analysis was performed April 3 to May 7, 2024. Logistic regression models were used assess cumulative number factors, as well each ACE type. Understanding the intergenerational transmission of childhood maltreatment (CM) is crucial to prevent its perpetuation future generations. The literature has revealed parental empathy be a pivotal factor in this process. Parental ability comprehend and empathetically respond emotions mental states children; therefore, impairment may result challenges parenting, ultimately contributing CM. In study, we explored factors that undermine how they alter parenting practices, uncover process To investigate actual instances CM, comparative study was conducted between 13 mothers with history social interventions owing CM 42 control group. Path analysis performed examine trajectory from adverse experiences explore their correlations variables including affective cognitive empathy, depressive symptoms, styles. results showed specifically enhanced emotional domain Furthermore, heightened group influenced style mediated by symptoms. These provide important insights into context empathy.
