The hub-and-spoke model of semantic cognition proposes that conceptual representations in a heteromodal ‘hub’ interact with and emerge from modality-specific features or ‘spokes’, including valence (whether concept is positive negative), along visual auditory features. As result, congruency might facilitate our ability to link words conceptually. Semantic relatedness may similarly affect explicit judgements about valence. Moreover, conflict between meaning recruit control processes. Here we tested these predictions using two-alternative forced-choice tasks, which participants matched probe word one two possible target words, based on either global Experiment 1 examined timed responses healthy young adults, while 2 decision accuracy aphasia patients impaired controlled retrieval following left hemisphere stroke. Across both experiments, semantically-related targets facilitated matching, related distractors performance. Valence was also found decision-making. People showed matching had particular difficulty when were presented, suggesting the selective information relies Taken together, results are consistent hypothesis automatic access written affects processing valence, retrieved even this feature task-irrelevant, affecting efficiency judgements.

Focal structural damage to white matter tracts can result in functional deficits stroke patients. Traditional voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping is commonly used localize brain structures linked neurological deficits. Emerging evidence suggests that the impact of focal may extend beyond immediate lesion sites. In this study, we present a disconnectome approach based on support vector regression (SVR) identify and pathways associated with For clinical validation, utilized imaging data from 340 patients exhibiting motor A map was initially derived lesions for each patient. Abstract Motricity is the most commonly affected ability after a stroke. While many clinical studies attempt to predict motor symptoms at different chronic time points stroke, longitudinal acute-to-chronic remain scarce. Taking advantage of recent advances in mapping brain disconnections, we outcomes 62 patients assessed longitudinally two weeks, three months, and one year their Results indicate that disconnection patterns accurately impairments. However, leading impairment differ between three-time left right These results were cross-validated using resampling techniques. In sum, demonstrated while some neuroplasticity mechanisms exist changing structure–function relationship, prevail when predicting

Introduction Post-stroke depressive symptoms (PSDS) are common and relevant for patient outcome, but their complex pathophysiology is ill understood. It likely involves social, psychological biological factors. Lesion location a readily available information in stroke patients, it unclear if the neurobiological substrates of PSDS spatially localized. Building on previous analyses, we sought to determine associated with specific lesion locations, structural disconnection and/or localized functional diaschisis. Methods In prospective observational study, examined 270 patients first-ever Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS) around 6 months post-stroke. Based individual locations depression subscale HADS performed support vector regression lesion-symptom mapping, structural-disconnection-symptom mapping network-symptom-mapping, reanalysis this previously published cohort infer structure–function relationships. Abstract Semantic control refers to the ability flexibly retrieve and manipulate stored knowledge support context-appropriate behavior. A left-lateralized network comprising left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), posterior middle temporal (pMTG), dorsal medial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) has been consistently implicated in this process. While previous studies have established necessity of IFG pMTG semantic control, causal role dmPFC remains unclear. Additionally, it is unknown whether each these three regions exhibits internal functional differentiation how they interact control. To address questions, we combined task-based magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with fMRI-guided transcranial stimulation (TMS). We found that dmPFC, like pMTG, causally involved All exhibited a consistent anterior–posterior gradient: anterior subregions were selectively engaged during high-demand processing, whereas responded both easy hard tasks.
