Purpose: To investigate the effects of preexisting sleep disorders on oncologic outcomes patients receiving standard treatments for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods: The recruited from Taiwan Cancer Registry Database who had received surgery stage I–IVB OSCC. Cox proportional hazards model was used to analyze all-cause mortality, locoregional recurrence (LRR), and distant metastasis (DM). were categorized into those with without (Groups 1 2, respectively) through propensity score matching. Results: In multivariate regression analysis, adjusted hazard ratios LRR, DM Group compared 2 1.19 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.04–1.36; p = 0.011), 1.47 CI: 1.23–1.75; < 0.001), 1.15 1.02–1.44; 0.025), respectively. Conclusion: OSCC demonstrated poorer than did disorders. Therefore, before surgery, should be screened because they may serve as predictors survival in these patients. Future studies investigating benefits pharmacological behavioral problems are warranted.

Abstract Background Longitudinal observational cohort studies in cancer patients are important to move research and clinical practice forward. Continued study participation (study retention) is of importance maintain the statistical power facilitate representativeness findings. This aimed investigate retention attrition (drop-out) its associated sociodemographic factors among head neck (HNC) informal caregivers included Netherlands Quality Life Biomedical Cohort Study (NET-QUBIC). Methods NET-QUBIC a longitudinal 739 HNC 262 with collection patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), fieldwork data (interview, objective tests medical examination) biobank materials. was described from baseline (before treatment) up 2-years follow-up (after treatment). Sociodemographic characteristics components at (PROMs, samples) general (participation least one component) were investigated using Chi-square, Fisher exact or independent t-tests ( p < 0.05). Results 80% alive (66% all patients) 70% who participating (52% caregivers). Attrition most often caused by mortality, logistic, physical, psychological-related reasons. Tumor stage I/II, better physical performance (lower) comorbidity score PROMs component patients. No (patients), overall sample (patients caregivers) (caregivers) identified. A (among higher age follow-up. Conclusions Retention rates high two years (i.e. an active patient). Nevertheless, some selection shown terms tumor stage, performance, age, which might limit samples. To findings future benefit oversampling specific subgroups, such as poor outcomes younger caregivers.

Background: Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) undergoing radiation therapy (RT) often experience sleep disturbances that may contribute to oral mucositis (OM) quality of life (QOL). Methods: HNC treated RT at a single institution were examined. Sleep questionnaires given on the first day assess for insomnia obstructive apnea (OSA). Patient-reported QOL assessed during RT. Associations between OSA using Mann–Whitney U test. Linear mixed models associations OM. Results: Among 87 patients, 34 patients (39%) had subthreshold or greater 47 (54%) screened positive OSA. Fatigue is a distressing complaint with high detriment to quality of life that persists in one-third colorectal cancer survivors after treatment. Previous studies mixed groups patients have suggested sleep associated fatigue. We aimed investigate this association up until two years post-treatment. Data on n = 388 stage I-III were utilized from the EnCoRe study. Sleep and fatigue measured at 6 weeks 6, 12, 24 months was using Pittsburgh Quality Index (cross-sectional analysis only) single-item insomnia scale EORTC QLQ-C30. by Checklist Individual Strength. Linear mixed-model regression analyses analysed associations between cross-sectionally longitudinally. Psychoneurological symptoms are commonly reported by newly diagnosed head and neck cancer (HNC) patients, yet there is limited research on the associations of these with biomarkers stress inflammation. In this article, pre-treatment data a multi-center cohort HNC patients were analyzed using network analysis to examine connections between (poor sleep quality, anxiety, depression, fatigue, oral pain), (diurnal cortisol slope), inflammation markers (c-reactive protein [CRP], interleukin [IL]-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor alpha [TNF-α]), covariates (age body mass index [BMI]). Three centrality indices calculated: degree (number connections), closeness (proximity variable other variables), betweenness (based number times located shortest path any pair variables). sample 264 poor quality fatigue had highest index; CRP IL-6 index. The model yielded two clusters: symptoms—cortisol slope—CRP cluster IL-6—IL-10—TNF-α—age—BMI cluster. Both clusters connected most prominently via IL-6. Our findings provide evidence that CRP, play an important role in interconnections psychoneurological patients.

Poor sleep quality, a common, under-diagnosed, and under-treated problem in cancer patients, has negative physical psychological consequences, but its prevalence associated factors are not well studied Ethiopia. Thus, the present study aimed to assess of quality among adult patients receiving treatment at oncology units Amhara region, Ethiopia. An institution-based cross-sectional was conducted with under region from April 12 May 12/2021. A systematic random sampling technique used select 423 samples. Data were collected using structured Interviewer-administered questionnaire. Sleep depression assessed by Pittsburgh Quality Index subscale Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, respectively. Bivariable multivariable logistic regression analyses computed, considering p < 0.25 candidate variables for analysis 0.05 be statistically significant final model.A total 410 participated this study. The mean participant's age 44.2 (range: 20-77) years. More than half (52.7%) participants received chemotherapy remaining treated combination treatments. Two-hundred ninety-three (71.5%) had poor 28.5% good quality. found significantly advanced [AOR = 1.037, 95% CI: (1.012-1.062)]; having depressive symptoms 2.862, (1.133, 7.228)]; distant metastasis 3.758, (1.585, 8.909)]; increased severity pain 1.331, (1.106, 1.601)].The high patients. Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) often report disturbances in their sleep quality, impairing quality of life. This study aims to examine the trajectories from diagnosis up 6-month after treatment, as well pre-treatment risk factors for poor trajectories.Sleep (Pittsburgh index) was measured shortly (pre-treatment), at 3 6 months finishing treatment. were categorized into 5 trajectory groups. We examined association sociodemographic clinical characteristics, coping style, HNC symptoms, psychological distress.Among 412 included patients, about a half either had persistent good (37.6%) or an improving (16.5%) trajectory. About third (21.8%) worsening (10.9%) The remaining patients (13.1%), alternated between sleep. Using reference outcome, sleepers more likely be woman (odds ratio [OR] = 1.98, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01-3.90), use painkillers prior treatment (OR 2.52, CI 1.33-4.77), have anxiety symptoms 1.26, 1.15-1.38).Unfavorable are prevalent among A periodic evaluation starting is necessary identify problems, especially high-risk group.
