Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, responsible for the onset of several long-term complications. Recent evidence suggests that cognitive dysfunction represents an emerging complication DM, but underlying molecular mechanisms are still obscure. Dopamine (DA), neurotransmitter essentially known its relevance in regulation behavior and movement, modulates function, too. Interestingly, alterations dopaminergic system have been observed DM. This review aims to offer comprehensive overview most relevant experimental results assessing DA’s role highlighting presence DM supporting glucotoxicity DM-associated impairment. Several studies confirm DA cognition both animal models humans. Similarly, significant diabetes diabetic patients, Evidence accumulating advanced glycation end products (AGEs) their precursor methylglyoxal (MGO) associated with impairment system. Further research needed clarify linking assess deleterious impact glucotoxicity.

Neurotransmitters are molecules that amplify, transmit, and convert signals in cells, having an essential role information transmission throughout the nervous system. Hundreds of such chemicals have been discovered last century, continuing to be identified studied concerning their action on brain health. These substances observed influence numerous functions, including emotions, thoughts, memories, learning, movements. Thus, disturbances neurotransmitters' homeostasis started being correlated with a plethora neurological neurodegenerative disorders. In this respect, present paper aims describe most important neurotransmitters, broadly classified into canonical (e.g., amino acids, monoamines, acetylcholine, purines, soluble gases, neuropeptides) noncanonical neurotransmitters exosomes, steroids, D-aspartic acid), explain link some relevant conditions. Moreover, brief overview recently developed detection methods is offered, followed by several considerations modulation these towards restoring homeostasis.

Tracking signaling H2S in live mice demands responsive imaging with fine tissue depth and low interferences from scattering/autofluorescence probe concentration. With complementary advantages of fluorescence photoacoustic (PA) imaging, optical/PA dual-modality was suggested for in/ex vivo imaging. Therefore, a meso-benzoyloxyltricarboheptamethine cyanine, HS-CyBz, prepared as the first ratiometric H2S, profiting keto–enol transition sensing mechanism. Tail intravenous injection this leads to accumulation liver mice, endogenous upregulation triggered by S-adenosyl-l-methionine has been verified suggesting promising potential

Neurotransmitters are biochemical molecules that transmit a signal from neuron across the synapse to target cell, thus being essential function of central and peripheral nervous system. Dopamine is one most important catecholamine neurotransmitters since it involved in many functions human system, including motor control, reward, or reinforcement. It utmost importance quantify amount dopamine abnormal levels can cause variety medical behavioral problems. For instance, Parkinson’s disease partially caused by death dopamine-secreting neurons. To date, various methods have been developed measure levels, electrochemical biosensing seems be viable due its robustness, selectivity, sensitivity, possibility achieve real-time measurements. Even if detection not facile presence electroactive interfering species with similar redox potentials real biological samples, numerous strategies employed resolve this issue. The objective paper review materials (metals metal oxides, carbon materials, polymers) frequently used for point out their respective advantages drawbacks. Different types biosensors, (micro)electrodes, platforms, field-effect transistors, also described.

A consequence of our progressively ageing global population is the increasing prevalence worldwide age-related cognitive decline and dementia. In absence effective therapeutic interventions, identifying risk factors associated with becomes increasingly vital. Novel perspectives suggest that a dynamic bidirectional communication system between gut, its microbiome, central nervous system, commonly referred to as microbiota-gut-brain axis, may be contributing factor for health disease. However, exact mechanisms remain undefined. Microbial-derived metabolites produced in gut can cross intestinal epithelial barrier, enter systemic circulation trigger physiological responses both directly indirectly affecting functions. Populations with common physical diseases – such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders experience substantially higher rates of major depressive disorder (MDD) than the general population. On other hand, people living MDD have a greater risk for many diseases. This high level comorbidity is associated worse outcomes, reduced adherence to treatment, increased mortality, health care utilization costs. Comorbidity can also result in range clinical challenges, more complicated therapeutic alliance, issues pertaining adaptive behaviors, drug‐drug interactions adverse events induced by medications used mental disorders. Potential explanations prevalence above involve shared genetic biological pathways.
