Abstract
Background

Many
studies
have
explored
the
association
between
adverse
childhood
experiences
(ACEs)
and
Internet
addiction
(IA),
yet
research
findings
on
them
are
inconclusive.
We
conducted
a
systematic
search
7
databases
to
identify
relevant
published
until
January
2023,
analyzed
from
37
across
12
countries
involving
45,364
participants
aged
8
67
years
(51
%
women).
Results
indicated
positive
correlation
(r
=
0.21)
was
found
ACE
IA
around
world,
which
differed
among
continents.
It
that
all
subtypes
were
significantly
associated
with
(range
r
0.16
0.25).
Meta-regression
showed
stronger
younger
individuals
without
moderating
effects
of
gender
or
publication
year.
In
conclusion,
this
study
sheds
light
significant
ACEs
IA,
emphasizing
need
for
targeted
interventions
preventive
measures.
Future
could
delve
into
specific
aimed
at
mitigating
impact
such
as
cognitive-behavioral
therapies
metacognitive
therapy
interventions.
Additionally,
investigating
cultural
factors
may
influence

valuable
insights
