Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. While intraocular pressure (IOP) presents major risk factor, the underlying pathophysiology still remains largely unclear. The correlation between vascular abnormalities and glaucoma has been deliberated for decades. Evidence role played by factors in pathogenesis glaucomatous neurodegeneration already postulated. In addition, fact that causes both structural functional changes to retinal blood vessels described. This review aims investigate published evidence concerning relationship glaucoma, provide an overview "chicken or egg" dilemma glaucoma. this study, several biomarkers progression from perspective, including endothelin-1 (ET-1), nitric oxide, endothelial growth factor (VEGF), matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), were identified subsequently assessed their potential as pharmacological intervention targets.

Introduction To investigate the association of genetically predicted migraine with risk primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Methods estimate shared genetic basis and POAG, we conducted genome-wide correlation analyses using cross-trait linkage disequilibrium score regression. assess potential causal effects on POAG risk, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) data from European ancestry individuals. Genetic instruments (N = 54 variants minor allele frequency (MAF) ≥ 0.01) were derived our previous study (GWAS) in UK Biobank (16,709 cases 438,178 controls). For used GWAS summary statistics GERA cohort (3836 48,065 controls) or International Glaucoma Genetics Consortium (15,229 177,473 The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was source MR estimates common sensitivity conducted. Results We found that not associated ( r g 0.05; SE 0.11; P 0.69). Further, did detect any evidence between POAG. Conclusion Our results provide for may be a strong factor

AIM: To measure the retinal vessels of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients on spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) with a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) algorithm to better explore their structural changes in pathogenesis POAG. METHODS: In this retrospective case-control study, right eyes 32 POAG and 30 healthy individuals were routinely selected. Images supratemporal infratemporal B zones obtained by SD-OCT, edges identified FWHM method. The internal external diameters, wall thickness (WT), cross-sectional area (WCSA) wall-to-lumen ratio (WLR) blood studied. RESULTS: Compared control group, group showed significantly reduced arteriolar outer diameter (RAOD), lumen (RALD) WSCA (124.22±12.42 vs 138.32±10.73 µm, 96.09±11.09 108.53±9.89 4762.02±913.51 5785.75±1148.28 µm2, respectively, all P<0.05) regions (125.01±15.55 141.57±10.77 96.27±13.29 110.83±10.99 4925.56±1302.88 6087.78±1061.55 P<0.05). WT WLR not different between groups, nor venular (RVOD), (RVLD) or region. There was positive correlation parameters visual function. CONCLUSION: POAG, narrowing arterioles significant reduction is observed, while do change. Among parameters, diameter, WT, WLR, venules are affected.

Introduction: The dilatory response of healthy retinal arterioles to flicker-light (FL) provocation appears be biphasic. vessel diameter rapidly increases (acute phase) over 5–10 s, then barely thereafter (maintenance until FL cessation. This reaction is usually characterised at a single point by two parameters: maximum dilation (MD) relative baseline (MD, %) and time MD (RT, s). paper describes the biphasic arteries during using bi-linear function. Methods: Retinal from 45 adults were examined flicker provocation. Each individual course arterial change was equation compared with RT. Results: Slopes acute phase 0.506%/s, maintenance nearly flat (0.012%/s). mean which changed 7.4 s significantly different RT (16.0 Mean this (2.987%) (3.734%), but it still 80% in less than half Conclusion: Bi-linear fitting parameters better characterises Further stratification clinical groups may provide insight underlying physiology for pathologies.

Abstract Purpose Because stress can aggravate primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) progress, we studied if reduction by eye muscle exercises and meditation (Eye Yoga, EY) normalize VD, intraocular pressure (IOP) visual field (VF) function as a complementary, personalized approach of care. Patients Methods: POAG patients were randomized 1:1 to an EY (n = 15) or control group 12). While was practiced daily for one hours month at home using iPod-audio guide, read relaxing books. Outcome criteria IOP, retinal vessel dynamics VF recovery. Results After intervention, patients, but not controls, showed 6.4% IOP (p 0.027). This associated with improvement (mean deviation) which greater in than controls < 0.001). Furthermore, EY, pattern deviation recovered regions where microvessel (third order-branch) vasoconstriction improved (artery: p 0.012; vein: 0.042) mean artery diameter significantly 0.015). When pooling data both groups, regions, non-recovered fields, larger arterial gains (2.4 [-0.3-5.3] MU). Neither treatment had any adverse events. Conclusions is able reduce improve confirms the hypothesis that mental contributing, even key mechanism POAG, blood flow fundamental vision recovery restoration. Daily yoga home-exercises are safe effective complementary PPPM method be easily adopted Trial Registration clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04037384)
