In taxonomy, precision of species collection data is a cornerstone for advancing research and its diverse applications. Despite the widespread recognition significance these data, researchers have frequently neglected some important details in published taxonomic studies. Historically, fungal studies leaned heavily on morphological delineation taxa. contrast, methods currently employ synthesis combination morpho-molecular markers, chemical attributes both ecological geographic data. Even with new methods, mycologists value derived from old records as essential guides current future Therefore, this underscores importance careful documentation habits habitats parallel collection. While collecting specimens fungi, it to record metadata such sampling location, habitat (host/substrate), season (date or specific season) physical information specimen itself. These datasets will provide rich source ecology conservation resources. Understanding distribution patterns possible explanations real challenge conserving biodiversity, lack data-recording creates substantial obstacles. Accurate fungarium are basic understanding richness assessing red-listed invasive species. This paper explores additions recording, emphasising hosts locations. With the over 2000 marine fungi and fungal-like organisms documented so far, some have adapted fully to life in sea, while ability tolerate environmental conditions milieu. These evolved various mechanisms for growth environment, especially against salinity gradients. This review highlights response of fungi, terrestrial (for comparison) towards variations terms their growth, spore germination, sporulation, physiology, genetic adaptability. Marine, freshwater vary greatly salinity. Generally, grow, germinate sporulate better at lower salinities, do a wide range salinities. Zoosporic are more sensitive than true Ascomycota Basidiomycota. Labyrinthulomycota Oomycota tolerant saprolegniaceous reproduction. Wide adaptability saline or marine-related habitats requires maintaining accumulation ions vacuoles, exclusion high levels sodium chloride, maintenance turgor mycelium, optimal alkaline pH, broad temperature from polar tropical waters, depths often under anoxic conditions, these properties may allow positively respond challenges that climate change will bring. Other related topics also be discussed this article, such as effect on secondary metabolite production by evolution endophytes.

Abstract This article revises the documented diversity of known marine fungi from nine phyla, 33 classes, 107 orders, 273 families, 767 genera and 1898 species reported worldwide. A member Aphelidiomycota, Pseudaphelidium drebesii , is for first time environment, on a diatom. Likewise, phylum Mortierellomycota listed following taxonomic changes, as are six subclasses: Chaetothyriomycetidae, Savoryellomycetidae, Sclerococcomycetidae, Agaricostilbomycetidae, Auriculariomycetidae Aphelidiomycotina. Thirty-three orders 105 family names with added to checklist, along 641 in 228 genera, bringing total 1898. New additions list highlighted. Four new combinations proposed: Stigmatodiscus mangrovei Diaporthe krabiensis xylocarpi while hyphomycete Humicola alopallonella referred genus Halosphaeriopsis alopallonella.

Fungi play a crucial role in ecosystems, and they have been widely considered promising source for natural compounds that are drug discovery. high diversity, but about 95% of them remain unknown to science. The description rate fungi is very low, mainly due the inability most grow artificial media, which could not provide sufficiently similar environment their habitats. Moreover, many species nature state low metabolic activity cannot readily proliferate without proper resuscitation. Previously developed culturomics techniques mostly designed applicable bacteria, with few attempts fungal isolation because significantly larger cell size hyphal growth properties. This study attempted isolate previously uncultured rare from mangrove sediments using newly enrichment culture method (FECM) chips (FiChips). Comparison community composition at different stages showed FECM had great influence on composition, taxa increased significantly, thus improving efficiency fungi. Similarly, situ cultivation FiChips has significant advantage detecting culturing fungi, as compared conventional dilution plate (DPM). In addition, based morphological comparisons phylogenetic analyses, we described proposed 38 new ascomycetous taxa, including three families, eight genera, 25 species, two combinations (presented additional file 1).Our demonstrated harbor diversity our approaches (FECM FiChips) presented isolating hitherto potentially usable other environments.
