Abstract
This
chapter
provides
an
overview
of
different
forms
self-injurious
behavior
(SIB).
A
general
distinction
is
made
between
direct
and
indirect
SIB.
Direct
SIB
a
deliberate
intentional
harmful
such
as
cutting
or
burning
oneself
while
SIB,
overeating
substance
abuse,
in
itself
not
immediately
but
increases
the
risk
harm
occurring
subsequently.
Indirect
consists
various
behaviors,
it
does
make
sense
to
describe
uniform
phenomenon.
The
authors
propose
categorization
non-suicidal

behaviors
that
belong
each
three
categories

Abstract
Purpose
Research
has
shown
that
self-compassion
and
body
appreciation
are
associated
with
less
disordered
eating.
However,
previous
literature
mostly
examined
between-person
associations,
which
do
not
account
for
fluctuations
in
these
constructs
within
individuals
over
time.
Understanding
such
could
inform
future
tailored
interventions
to
better
address
individuals’
needs
by
targeting
times
when
they
most
vulnerable.
The
aim
of
this
study
was
examine
dynamic
within-person
associations
between
self-compassion,
appreciation,
eating
young
adults
who
self-reported
trying
lose
weight.
Methods
Fifty-seven
18–30-year-old
aiming
weight
reported
their
levels
using
items
from
the
Short
Form
Self-Compassion
Scale
(SCS-SF),
Body
Appreciation
Scale-2
(BAS-2)
eating,
derived
diary
research,
twice
daily

period.

Background
“Cheat
meals”,

brief
eating
episodes
that
depart
from
established
dietary
practices
to
consume
prohibited
foods,

novel

increasingly
common
behavior
with

adolescence
