Antibiotics are a cornerstone of modern medicine, but antibiotic consumption can have depleting effects on the gut microbiota, potentially leading to gastrointestinal symptoms and other diseases, namely Clostridioides difficile infection. Because nutrition is major driver microbiota diversity function, here we explore current evidence potential diets in alleviate deleterious antibiotics consumed during infections.

Age-related changes in intestinal microbiome composition and function are increasingly recognized as pivotal the pathophysiology of aging associated with phenotype. Diet is a major determinant gut-microbiota throughout entire lifespan, several benefits healthy diet could be mediated by microbiome. Mediterranean (MD) traditional dietary pattern regarded paradigm, large number studies have demonstrated its promoting aging. MD has also positive modulatory effect on microbiome, favoring bacterial taxa involved synthesis bioactive compounds, such short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), that counteract inflammation, anabolic resistance, tissue degeneration. Intervention conducted older populations suggested individual response subjects to MD, terms reduction frailty scores amelioration cognitive function, significantly functionality. In this context, should considered when designing MD-based interventions tailored needs geriatric patients.

Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) is a predominant water channel protein expressed in the intestine, and plays important roles gut physiology pathophysiology due to its permeability water, glycerol hydrogen peroxide. In this review, we systematically summarized current understanding of expression AQP3 intestine different species, focused on potential transport, types diarrhea constipation, intestinal inflammation, barrier function, oxidative stress, autophagy. These updated findings have supported that may function as an target maintaining health human animals.

Abstract Background Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) can prolong hospitalization, increase medical costs, and even lead to higher mortality rates. Therefore, it is essential predict the incidence of AAD in elderly intensive care unit(ICU) patients. The objective this study was create a prediction model that both interpretable generalizable for predicting ICU Methods We retrospectively analyzed data from First Medical Center People’s Liberation Army General Hospital (PLAGH) China. utilized machine learning Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) Shapley’s additive interpretation method patients an manner. Results A total 848 adult were eligible study. XGBoost predicted with area under receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) 0.917, sensitivity 0.889, specificity 0.806, accuracy 0.870, F1 score 0.780. outperformed other models, including logistic regression, support vector (AUC = 0.809), K-nearest neighbor algorithm 0.872), plain Bayes 0.774). Conclusions While may not excel absolute performance, demonstrates superior predictive capabilities compared models forecasting categorized based on their characteristics.

The discovery of human microbiota shed a different perspective regarding homeostasis and immune regulation. Gut comprises multitude microorganisms, its composition being host-specific evolving throughout the lifetime, subjected to both endogenous exogenous factors. This subject gained significant interest after improvement metagenomic metabolomic studies. gut microbiome displays several roles, such as modulating permeability, digestive processes, metabolic pathways, responses. Any dysregulation in complex symbiosis mechanism between humans intestinal might lead variable diseases. Environmental factors diet play very important role maintaining healthy microbiota. In this chapter, one aims discuss core subjects how stages dysbiosis can initiation progression pathogenic mechanisms leading diseases, gastrointestinal disorders (irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory infections or diarrhea associated with antibiotics, colon cancer), disorders, obesity, diabetes, allergies. We underline importance environmental microorganism concentrations. light on new possible perspectives modulation for improving health status host.

Objective This work aims to describe symptom occurrence, duration, severity, and distress measures microbiome among cancer receiving chemotherapy compared age- sex-matched healthy controls. Interventions/Methods 22 17 control provided stool specimens data using modified Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (MSAS). The fecal was profiled by metagenomic sequencing 16S Ribosomal RNA (rRNA). between groups alpha-diversity (Observed OTU number Shannon index), beta-diversity (UniFrac distances), relative abundance select genera. Results high reports patients included nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, dry mouth, taste change, poor appetite. Indices differential (beta diversity) significantly distinguished Unique bacterial features differentiating 2 were Prevotella_9, Akkermansia, Lachnospira, Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136, Lachnoclostridium, Oscillibacter. Conclusions Gut are associated inflammation mucus degradation, suggesting potential role burden.
