Exploring new realms or losing touch? Assessing public beliefs about tourism in the metaverse–a big-data approach

Purpose The Metaverse is rapidly reshaping the understanding of tourism, yet public perception this new domain remains largely uncharted empirically. This paper aims to build on technology acceptance model (TAM) and diffusion innovations theory (DIT) fill gap, offering crucial insights that could inform scholars practitioners in both tourism sectors. Design/methodology/approach Using a big-data approach, authors applied machine learning scrape comments made by social media users recent popular posts or videos related from three prominent platforms. cleaning process narrowed down 15,461 2,650, which were then analysed using thematic, emotion sentiment analysis techniques. Findings thematic revealed virtual evokes complex range beliefs. While many express awe excitement toward its immersive capabilities, others remain sceptical about authenticity compared physical travel. Additional themes show people draw comparisons real-world discuss technology’s role note educational value novelty. However, some raise concerns potential societal harms, exploitation mental health impacts. Sentiment found over half positive, though negative. Teknoloji, her alanda toplumsal değişimin ve dönüşümün bir faktörü olarak önem arz etmekte gelişen teknolojik uygulamalar sektörü etkisi altına almaktadır. Bu doğrultuda yaşanan gelişmeler turizm sektörünü de etkileyerek, büyük veri analizi, yapay zeka, mobil uygulamalar, artırılmış gerçeklik (AR), sanal (VR), nesnelerin interneti metaverse gibi dizi yenilik fırsatı beraberinde getirmiştir. çalışmanın amacı, son zamanlarda kullanımı giderek yaygınlaşan “yapay zeka”, “artırılmış gerçeklik” “metaverse” teknolojileri konu alan uluslararası dergilerini inceleyerek mevcut çalışmaların analiz edilmesi literature sunulmasıdır. web of science tabanında SSCI kategorisindeki dergilerde gelişmiş arama yapılarak tarih aralığı 2009-2023 sınırlandırılmış, kavramları anahtar kelimeler bölümünde taratılmıştır. doğrultuda, İngilizce dilinde yazılmış, erişime açık, 128’i 61’i gerçeklik, 25’i olmak üzere toplam 214 makaleye ulaşılmış, veriler bibliyometrik ile incelenmiştir. Söz konusu makaleler; makalenin yılı, dergilere göre dağılım, konu, yöntem dört başlık altında bağlamda ilk 2011 yılında zeka ilgili yapıldığı, 2015 yapıldığı teknolojisi ise oldukça yeni kavram olduğundan 2022 yayımlandığı görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte en fazla konusunda olduğu, çalışmalarda nitel nicel yöntemin hemen eşit düzeyde kullanıldığı çok International Journal Contemporary Hospitality Management dergisinde sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

Analyzing the Impact of Metaverse Technology on Social Development: A Field Study on Generation Z in the United Arab Emirates

A novel framework for the quantitative analysis of the projected image of Accessible Tourist Destinations
