To address the insufficient bonding performance between TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) coating and carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (CFRP) matrices that limits engineering applications of composite structures, coatings were fabricated on CFRP polymer composites via laser cladding analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) transmission (TEM) to examine interface morphology, microstructure, phase composition. The influence processing parameters quality was assessed based mechanical coating. findings revealed power (<230 W) or excessive speed (>1.4 m/min) led incomplete melting powder, preventing formation intermetallic compound (IMC) layers. Conversely, (>270 a low (<1.0 caused thermal decomposition due its limited resistance, leading interfacial defects such as cracks pores. primarily comprised granular TiC acicular α' martensite, with minor TiS2 detected. Optimal achieved at 250 W 1.2 m/min, yielding maximum shear strength 18.5 MPa. These provide critical insights for enhancing load-bearing capacity TC4/CFRP aeronautical composites, enabling their reliable operation in extreme aerospace environments.

Polymers and their composites are widely used for designing structures in aerospace, automotive, electronic, sport industries due to lightweight, cost, processing advantages. However, the surface of polymeric materials typically exhibits intrinsic deficiencies, limiting durability functionalities, e.g., low wear resistance, thermal electrical conductivity, adhesion, bioactivity, reflectiveness, weak photochemical resistance. Polymer metallization is an emerging concept that addresses these deficiencies by forming a metallic skin on surfaces. Herein, working principles, recent advances, challenges, functional capabilities, applications state-of-the-art polymer methods fields additive manufacturing, coating technologies, material science reviewed nano-, micro-, macroscales. The applied composite substrates physical vapor deposition, electrochemical plating, family spray (such as flame spaying, arc spraying, plasma cold spraying), series polymer–metal direct bonding adhesive bonding, injection overmolding, fusion joining techniques, including ultrasonic joining, friction spot electromagnetic induction laser joining). Understanding key aspects within approaches would guide scientist engineers optimizing design structural made polymers/composites.
