Eco-labels are an instrument for enabling informed food choices and supporting a demand-sided change towards urgently needed sustainable system. Lately, novel eco-labels that depict product’s environmental life cycle assessment on multi-level scale being tested across Europe’s retailers. This study elicits consumers’ preferences willingness to pay (WTP) eco-label. A Discrete Choice Experiment was conducted; representative sample (n = 536) the Austrian population targeted via online survey. Individual partworth utilities were estimated by means of Hierarchical Bayes. The results show higher WTP positively evaluated label, revealing perceived benefits colorful labels over binary black-and-white designs. Even negatively label associated with compared one no pointing limited effectiveness eco-labels. Respondents’ independent from their subjective eco-label knowledge, health consciousness, concern. attribute “protein source” most important, preference animal-based protein source (beef) strongly correlated meat attachment, implying shift more sources is challenging, sustainability have only small impact product choice average consumers.

Abstract Purpose Nutri-Score aims to aid consumers in making informed food choices based on nutritional quality. To guide regarding both the quality and environmental impact of foods, it would be beneficial when could also discriminate foods by impact. This study investigated association with indicators greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions blue water consumption. Methods classifications were calculated for generic Dutch Food Composition Database, combined GHG (kg CO 2 equivalents) consumption (m 3 ) using Life Cycle Assessment database ( n = 1,611). Spearman correlations between (expressed as numerical final score points algorithm components) indicators. was performed (i.e. general added fats, nuts seeds, beverages) group. Selected groups studied further. Results (final score) correlated significantly r 0.29), seeds 0.25), negatively =-0.51). Saturated fatty acids protein 0.52 0.43) some consumption, namely bread 0.60 0.53) savoury sauces 0.53). Conclusion Currently, Nutri-Score’s ability according is limited. use Front-of-Pack labeling impact, exploration revisions or additional tools needed.

Referent groups can moderate the perception of social norms and individuals’ likelihood to model these in food choice contexts, including vegetable intake reduced meat consumption. The present study investigated whether having a close vs. distant group as referent changed perceptions around making healthy eco-friendly choices. It also assessed changes were associated with difference health environmental impacts virtual grocery shopping task. In spite of the significant progress towards sustainable cosmetics, mass-produced packaging has proven to be a challenge. The complexity environmental, economic, social, technological and policy considerations in conjunction with varying consumer behaviors corporate goals can make it difficult select an optimal strategy across heterogeneous supply-chain components spread over globe; cost effort developing, testing validating alternative strategies discourages empirical exploration potential alternatives. This review discusses challenges that expected context broader sustainability efforts, as well experience gained related fields such cosmetics packaging, identify pitfalls promising trends development packaging. findings suggest there may little from attempting induce customers change their behavior; waiting for increase global recycling infrastructure; or expecting regulatory constraints substitute lack business solutions. A research is delineated that, appropriate support, could minimize externalities provide acceptable both consumers producers.

Within the Farm to Fork Strategy, European Commission ask for a unified Front Of Pack nutritional label food be used at level. The scientific debate identified Nutri-Score (NS) as most promising candidate, but within political discussion, some Member States brought attention several issues related its introduction. This misalignment led postponement of final decision. With aim shed light on current stances and contribute forthcoming debate, objective present work is understand what extent research addresses raised by general public. We applied structural topic model tweets from four countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain) abstracts papers, all dealing with NS topic. Different aspects are discussed in different countries, research, while addressing them (e.g., comparison between other labels), disregards others relations traditional products). It advisable, therefore, widen scope properly address concerns society provide policymakers robust evidence support their decisions.

Meat consumption has been linked to adverse health consequences, worsening climate change, and the risk of pandemics. is however a popular food product dissuading people from consuming meat proven difficult. Outside realm consumption, previous research shown that pictorial warning labels are effective at curbing tobacco smoking reducing sugary drinks alcohol. The present extends this work hypothetical meal selection, using an online decision-making task test whether people's choices can be influenced by focused on health, climate, or pandemic risks associated with meat. Setting quotas for age gender approximate UK nationally representative sample, total n = 1001 adult consumers (aged 18+) were randomised into one four experimental groups: label, control (no label present). All reduced proportion meals selected significantly compared group, reductions ranging −7.4% −10%. There no statistically significant differences in selection between different types labels. We discuss implications future research, policy, practice.
