Mobile zoos are events in which non-domesticated (exotic) and domesticated species transported to venues such as schools, hospitals, parties, community centres, for the purposes of education, entertainment, or social therapeutic assistance. We conducted literature searches surveyed related government agencies regarding existing provisions within laws policies, number mobile zoos, formal guidance issued concerning operation 74 countries regions. also examined governmental non-governmental standards well websites zoo operations, assessed promotional educational materials scientific accuracy, recorded diversity use. used EMODE (Easy, Moderate, Difficult, Extreme) algorithm, evaluate identified associated with their suitability keeping. 14 areas concern animal biology public health safety, 8 false misleading content materials. at least 341 zoos. largely unregulated, unmonitored, uncontrolled, appear be increasing. Issues poor welfare, education raise several serious concerns. Using precautionary principle when empirical evidence was not available, we advise that exotic should similar itinerant events.

Abstract The Five Freedoms, Domains, Welfare Needs, and other similar models or principles, are key aspirational outcome-led frameworks aimed at safeguarding animals under human custodianship, widely used in legislation, guidance documents, protocols. We to investigate the effectiveness of these animal welfare as intended protections. Our study considered three informational tiers relevance for guidance: Tier 1, principles governing legislation; 2, formal secondary guidance; 3, outcomes. conducted a literature review models, well reports persistent problems associated with exotic pets, collated available examples relevant legislation their implementation. Of 91 studied regions that adopted following were directly closely aligned with: Freedoms n = 64, Needs 26, Domains 1. identified numbers concerns kept trade private home situations: invertebrates 21, fishes 27, amphibians reptiles 43, birds 22, mammals 43. Despite frequent adoption one model principle, regularly relation both commercial environments across all classes. recommend is assigned priority over traditional pet selling keeping practices through modernised underpinned by evolving scientific knowledge precautionary aim promote animal-centric preferred life quality.

Fur farming involves the captive-breeding, rearing, and killing of between 85 – 100 million animals annually for their pelts. The purpose this report is to summarise key areas significance concern regarding fur farming, discuss these matters one-health considerations. We conducted primary literature searches using Google Scholar PubMed that focused on issues animal welfare, zoonoses public health, environmental impacts examined 280 reports. identified at least 15 species are farmed across 19 countries. found 16 categories welfare (e.g., deprivation, stress, abnormal behaviours, insanitary conditions, forced obesity, high morbidity mortality), 18 reported endemic pathogens diseases with confirmed or potential zoonotic cross-species implications bacterial n = 6, viral 5, parasitic 7), four main greenhouse gas emissions, invasive alien species, toxic chemicals, eutrophication) associated farming. Despite numerous efforts systematically monitor control farms, practices continue fail meet normal scientific principles models used in other situations. In our view, limited available data does not currently indicate farms major sources epidemics pandemics. problems caused by significant, relate mainly chemical release eutrophication water bodies. offer some recommendations monitoring controlling particular practices, line many governments investigators we conclude inherent essentially unresolvable advocate complete prohibitions sector.

People working in the field of Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAI) often state that they perceive animal welfare as a matter paramount importance, nevertheless most scientific literature focuses on effectiveness interventions from user's perspective. Before focusing animals’ management and during interaction with users, it would be important to ensure their “ordinary lives”. This article reports information considerations about donkeys involved AAI Northern Italy. Six facilities several years experience Donkey-Assisted were visited for purpose an initial data collection regarding AAI. A general lack knowledge nutritional needs donkey heterogeneity practices its preventive medicine have been identified; study also highlighted need efforts create more stimulating enriched environment animals Some possible areas improvement highlighted. Further studies are necessary provide comprehensive picture this context.

The role of non-human animals in the food system is more fiercely contested now than ever before. Deep chasms exist between different actors’ visions future and their acceptance present. What some view as moral outrages, others see valued traditions, wellsprings pride identity, honed crafts, sources indispensable nutrients, so much more; intersections with other issues (environmental harms, rural economies, development poverty) add still further tension. It a difficult knot to untangle. Reflecting contributing these radical differences positions, stakeholders debates work within varied frameworks. For philosophers animal ethics, are fundamentally questions that must be answered by direct engagement our value systems. welfare scientists, we can move forward deepening empirically-based understanding animals’ lives. farmers, fishers, practically engaged producing foods, too little attention paid authority gained from daily working alongside intuitively what not good practice. In this explainer, explore paradigms arguments surrounding ethics welfare. We investigate how why disciplines frame debate differently, range whether any areas agreement might signal pathways progress.

Introduction The recent COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the crucial role of “One Health” (OH) concept in prevention, early detection, and mitigation health issues involving humans, animals, environment. Recognizing intrinsic interdependence among human health, animal environmental well-being is crucial, demanding heightened emphasis. Many challenges stem from situations that compromise welfare (AW), well-being, sustainability, vice versa. significance AW across its five domains essential for preventing future pandemics advancing global objectives such as food security, reduction suffering, biodiversity conservation, enhanced productivity agricultural-livestock sector. Methods From March to May 2023, we conducted an online survey using QuestionPro ® explore perceptions, experiences, ongoing strategies, activities within disciplines linked OH approach Latin America. Respondents included stakeholders various associated with AW. Results Our findings reveal both concepts are currently undergoing expansion phase However, interdependencies between not widely recognized. While frequently receives significant attention diverse educational perspectives, gained considerable momentum over past decade. Academic sectors non-governmental organizations (NGOs) driving initiatives bridging America, underscoring need robust public policies ensure sustainable strategies. In the UK, March 2020 was a time of great uncertainty as COVID-19 became increasingly widespread. The government responded by making suggestions about how people could reduce risk spread on 16 March, moved swiftly into closing schools 18 before announcing mandatory lockdown 23rd March. This challenging for UK equestrians who had to balance maintaining their equine's routine and daily care alongside increasing biosecurity measures. A cross-sectional survey distributed via social media over two days (28 29 2020) better understand decisions made horse, pony donkey owners during this time. Data from 452 respondents were generated across all four countries comprising although there no significant differences in owner response pandemic between locations. changes differed 16th 18th 2020, with an early emphasis improving yard opting stop riding, well reducing spent at yard. After placed more reduction changing activities they did including common examples avoiding "high risk" such riding busy roads, jumping, young or nervous horses. Few reported having emergency plan place should become ill otherwise unable equine. findings highlight areas that would significantly benefit in-depth investigation future research. Equestrian behaviour mindset around risk-taking perception have already been researched relation equestrian sport but received little attention context wider health challenges.
