Physical exercise may reduce dementia risk in aging, but varying reports on its effectiveness make it challenging to ascribe what level of will have significant longer-term effects important functions such as hippocampal-based learning and memory. This study compared the effect three different 6-month regimens hippocampal-dependent cognition healthy, elderly individuals. Participants, aged 65-85 with no cognitive deficits, were randomly assigned one interventions (low (LIT), medium (MIT), High intensity interval training (HIIT), respectively). Each participant attended 72 supervised sessions over a period. A total 151 participants completed all sessions. Cognitive testing for hippocampal performance occurred monthly, did blood collection, continued up 5 years following initiation study. Multimodal 7 Tesla MRI scans taken at commencement, 6 12 months. After months, only HIIT group displayed improvement function, measured by paired associative (PAL). from showed abrogation age-dependent volumetric decrease within several cortical regions including hippocampus improved functional connectivity between multiple neural networks not seen other groups. HIIT-mediated changes circulating levels brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) cortisol correlated ability. These findings demonstrate that significantly improves prolongs health Importantly, was retained least HIIT, suggesting volume underpin this long-term maintenance. Sustained function extent confirms exercise-based can provide protection against decline population. The specific also useful biomarkers choosing optimal regimen promote improvement.

With the aging of global population, neurodegenerative diseases are emerging as a major public health issue. The adoption less sedentary lifestyle has been shown to have beneficial effect on cognitive decline, but molecular mechanisms responsible clear. Here we provide detailed analysis complex molecular, cellular, and systemic underlying age-related decline how choices influence these processes. A review evidence from animal models, human studies, postmortem analyses emphasizes importance integrating physical exercise with cognitive, multisensory, motor stimulation part multifaceted approach mitigating decline. We highlight potential non-pharmacological interventions address key hallmarks, such genomic instability, telomere attrition, neuroinflammation, underscore need for comprehensive personalized strategies promote resilience healthy aging.

This book is an open resource textbook with the title 'Active Education in Older Adults Use of Smart Technologies'. aims to provide overview 'smart active ageing' for future helping professionals, as well experts practice súch educators adults and older adults, social workers healthcare workers, within public health areas. The ambition authors strengthen professional competencies terms identifying educational needs, planning, implementing, evaluating necessary support part concept smart ageing. A theoretical-practical approach was applied when creating text this textbook. Chapters contaín theoretical starting points relevant issue. As result International project BIN SGS02_2021_002 'University Enhancing Active Ageing', supported by Norway through Grants, university published serve aid professionals working field education.
